Capping off this three day weekend of major wrestling shows, it’s another WWE PPV Sunday tonight! I know! It feels like we’ve just been here! If you’re counting WWE Starrcade, and really you shouldn’t but in some ways you can, WWE have run a PPV-level show on three of the last four Sundays! That is somewhat overkill! But it comes to a close tonight, as it’s our last big event before the Royal Rumble kicks off WrestleMania season! And before that we have an interesting night of action awaiting us in the form of WWE TLC!
Looking at this card, I can’t help but think this is one of those shows that’ll either be completely spectacular or a total disaster. Just sorta have that feeling. And yannow what, that’s pretty exciting! So let’s get to the previews.
Aleister Black vs. Buddy Murphy
I’m not sure how excited the rest of the world watching is for this match, but I’m personally very, very into the idea of this match-up. These two are very different in character and mindset, but stylistically, they’re not as far apart as you might think.
Aleister Black and Buddy Murphy are both awesome athletes with a ton of agility in addition to having very powerful striking games. But whereas Black has very much a pure martial artist vibe to his fighting style with a focus on intricate kicks, Murphy is basically a collection of New Japan’s Greatest Hits as far as his moveset goes. From Will Ospreay’s Cheeky Nandos kick to the Liger Bomb to Kota Ibushi’s Kamigoye, he’s pretty obviously a big fan and this makes his moveset quite explosive and unique from most others in WWE. He particularly stans Kenny Omega though with his utter love of V-Trigger style knees. I’m somewhat surprised his finish isn’t the One Winged Angel, but Murphy’s Law is pretty damn cool in it’s own right!
So yeah the idea of them squaring off is great in my book, and they’re also two guys who have a big winning streak to their names, neither have lost since being drafted to Raw. Honestly, I’m not sure when the last time this has happened. So that’s really cool, and it’s between rather fresh names at that!
As far as who wins goes, it could kinda go either way, depends on who they have the most planned for going forward. But I’ll say Aleister Black is the safer pick.
