In a Twitter video by Zack Ryder, him & Curt Hawkins have become the next in line for a chance to hold the RAW Tag Team Championships after winning a Triple Threat match in Germany at a Live Event. The current champions, The Viking Raiders will be an imposing challenge as the perpetual underdogs look to become three time tag team champions within WWE.
“We’ve been here for almost fourteen years. The entire time, people count us out. But we always prove them wrong, just like we did tonight when we earned ourselves an opportunity to become three time tag team champions. There’s a reason why we’re still here, there’s a reason why we’re always ready. We’re going to prove it at RAW, and at Survivor Series. We’re gonna be the sole survivors.” said Zack Ryder in the promo posted to social media.
Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins Named Number One Contenders For The WWE RAW Tag Team Championships
The duo won the RAW Tag Team Championships at Wrestlemania earlier this year, which also ended Curt Hawkins losing streak of 269 matches when he pinned Scott Dawson of The Revival to become champions. They would defend against The Revival on RAW, but lose the belts back to The Revival in a Triple Threat match also involving The Usos. That was the last thing of note the duo did, besides a losing effort in the tag team gauntlet match at WWE Crown Jewel.
But as Zack Ryder said, people always overlook them but they have a tendency to prove us wrong. The Survivor Series triple champion match has already changed to add in The New Day tandem of Kofi Kingston & Big E when they defeated The Revival to become champions on Smackdown, so we can’t pretend that Hawkins & Ryder won’t score the upset and defeat The Viking Raiders on RAW to insert themselves into the Survivor Series card.
While they give up a size advantage, they have much more experience than their opponents, and you don’t spend 14 years in the wrestling industry without learning some tricks on how to overcome bigger opponents. But with this being WWE, it is more likely to be a 5 minute match where Viking Raiders absolutely dominate and we don’t see Hawkins & Ryder until the new year when they show up for the Royal Rumble.
