AEW (All Elite Wrestling) Announces Rey Fenix vs. Nick Jackson For Dynamite This Wednesday, Nick Jacksons First Singles Match In Years

Two of AEW’s premiere tag team specialists will meet in what will be boths first singles matches on AEW programming. These are Rey Fenix of The Lucha Brothers & Nick Jackson of The Young Bucks. Both men are used to wrestling in tag team matches, but both also have experience wrestling solo as well.

    Nick Jackson

With Matt Jackson injured following the attack by Satana & Ortiz on AEW Dynamite last week, Nick Jackson is going solo for the first time since when he faced Rocky Romero as part of NJPW Best Of The Super Junior XXII in a losing effort. This was on June 7th, 2015. It has been over four years since Nick Jackson didn’t have someone to back him up in a matchup, but that also comes with a major advantage for him; he’s hard to scout as a singles wrestler.

The Young Bucks have truly evolved their style since 2015, which means Nick Jackson has many tricks that we might have never seen yet as they wouldn’t fit into a tag match setting. According to cagematch.net, Nick Jackson has only wrestled 29 singles matches this entire decade and 66 total throughout his entire recorded career. He has worked hundreds of tag team matches by comparison.

    Rey Fenix

One half of The Lucha Brothers, Rey Fenix is almost wasted as part of a tag team. He is absolutely one of the premiere high flyers in wrestling today, and while his tag team endeavours with brother Pentagon Jr are great, he really shines in singles matches. As a singles wrestler, he is a former AAA Mega Champion, AAW Heavyweight Champion, and Lucha Underground Champion.

Rey Fenix & Pentagon are both huge potential singles stars for AEW, so seeing one of them finally get a chance to break out and show how they deal on their own is fantastic. Fenix most recently had a classic match down in AAA with Kenny Omega, so I’m keen to see them lock up on AEW TV somewhere down the line.

This match is just part of what is shaping up to be a huge episode of AEW Dynamite this week, also featuring a 12 man battle royale, Darby Allin vs. Jon Moxley, and Private Party vs. Santana & Ortiz. It will be one you absolutely don’t want to miss.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
