We’ve got another episode of AEW Dark premiering tonight and as opposed to most weeks, we have four matches rather than three to get to. So let’s not waste any time and dive right into this preview!
Pentagon Jr. vs. Trent
This sounds like an awesome match to me. Botch at the end aside, Trent reminded everyone that he can hang with anyone as a singles wrestler in his bout with PAC on Dynamite a couple of weeks ago. For Pentagon, it’s his first singles match in AEW – cutely taped on the same night his brother Rey Fenix had his own – and as someone who initially saw him as a solo act in Lucha Underground, I’m quite excited for that as well.
This should be a rad one, and I can only assume Orange Cassidy will be with Trent so as to face the Cero Miedo and perhaps combat it with a half-thumbs up! But even without that this would be great, and I’m actually not totally sure who would win. My best guess would be Pentagon as the Lucha Bros are generally pushed a lot harder, but I’m not sure you can count Trent out. It is pretty clear they’d like to move forward with him prevailing as a singles competitor. Perhaps there’s a long-term plan to have Chuck Taylor start tagging with Cassidy instead so as to allow Trent to pursue a singles career… hard to say.
Awesome Kong vs. Leva Bates
Okay, so when I mentioned there was an extra match on this show, it does come with the small caveat that one of them is likely to be extraordinarily short. If this goes longer than a minute it’ll only be because of Kong’s sadism. Poor Leva won’t even manage to take her to the mat, let alone get a victory, of that I’m about 99% positive. I’m similarly pretty sure that we’ll see Kong destroy Peter Avalon after the fact. Such is the life of a Librarian…
Big Swole vs. Shanna
For seemingly not being officially signed, they sure do like keeping Big Swole in work. Perhaps we’re witness to a trial period of some sort. She faces recent Portuguese signee Shanna in singles competition here, and she’s certainly impressed in her own right. I’m expecting a pretty good bout here, and should be a solid win for Shanna.
AAA Mega Championship: Kenny Omega (c) vs. Jack Evans
For the first time, Kenny Omega is defending his AAA Mega Championship in AEW. He won it from Rey Fenix a month ago at AAA Heroes Immortales XIII. Now he puts it on the line against Jack Evans, which sounds like a fantastic bout in the making to me.
Evans is on one hand sort of a funny choice given that he has yet to get a win in singles competition. However he does make sense given that he’s a guy with a lot of recent history in AAA. Though he last appeared with them in April, given AEW and AAA’s obvious affiliation it seems more likely than not that he will be wrestling for them again before too long. So on a meta logic standpoint, it’s not crazy to think Evans could win a AAA title and go back to Mexico with it.
Regardless, it’s booked sincerely because this will be a kickass match and I’m all for it.
You can expect the usual blow-by-blow recap from me later tonight!
