WWE Survivor Series Prediction – Why Rey Mysterio will beat Brock Lesnar

One of the popular beliefs being stirred up by the internet rumor mill is that Rey Mysterio will beat Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series for the WWE heavyweight championship.

I tend to believe this and here’s why.

Reports indicate that Brock Lesnar isn’t on the WWE schedule following Survivor Series

This could be any number of things from Lesnar taking time off to prepare for a possible return to UFC to taking a break from combat sports in general. It could also be the WWE and Vince McMahon keeping any future plans about Lesnar hush-hush to surprise us at a showing or pay-per-view in the future.

Whatever the plan, this will come as welcomed new to many as fans hate that Brock Lesnar is a part time wrestler (as were Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant during their careers). What can’t be ignored here is Lesnar, love him or hate him, is the biggest draw in the company.

While many judge a wrestler on their wins and losses or whether they’re cheered or not, the fact so many are willing to pay just to boo Lesnar means he’s still over and makes the company money. It’s an artform to have fans either love or hate you that much to keep coming back year after year. It’s actually something that’s rare.

All of that aside, Brock Lesnar returning for the Royal Rumble is a given. Most likely as a “surprise” entrant where he’ll either win or be one of the finalists. It’s a typical McMahonism to have a wrestler disappear for a time, either due to injury, other projects, or just sidelining for story purposes then come back out of nowhere.

Then there’s the biggest reason for Mysterio to win. At least, to my thinking.

    Rey Mysterio Retires in Style

Rey Mysterio will win the WWE heavyweight championship

Rey Mysterio will be forty-five years old in December and he’s been wrestling since ’87 or ’88.

That’s a long time of physical wear and tear for anyone, not to mention the muscle mass he put on the last few years. While the added mass helps to strengthen one’s body against injury, it’s still added weight his frame has to contend with. Given his physical, acrobatic style, it wouldn’t be surprising if his recent injuries were legitimate.

Mysterio’s had an amazing career and can still put on the occasional awesome match, so it makes sense to allow him to go out in a blaze of glory, even if it’s only for a couple of months.

To add to it, his son, Dominic, has been training for years to join his father in the ring. Dominic would’ve debuted a year or two ago, but WWE executives didn’t feel he was ready. He’s now slated to premiere in the ring in 2020 and Rey has said he wants to be with him to help guide him.

Having Dominic debut with Rey while he’s champion, then take over than Mysterio mantle with Rey in his corner after the title is dropped, would be a perfect ending to his in-ring career.

However it works out this weekend, it looks like there’s going to be a new champion. As old as he may be, it’d be awesome to see Rey Mysterio hold the belt once again.
