Sasha Banks during her hiatus from WWE took a trip to Japan, where she sparred with the legendary Meiko Satomura in the gym for Meikos promotion, Sendai Girls. Meiko is also the womens champion in Progress Wrestling. Progress Wrestling is very closely linked to WWE. Sasha Banks wants to fight Meiko in the ring. Weirder things have happened.
Meiko Satomura
WWE fans might recognize her name, as she took place in the second edition of the Mae Young Classic, making it to the semi-finals where she would lose to eventual winner Toni Storm. Her match with Mercedes Martinez was the most praised of the entire tournament, as the two veterans faced off in a 15 minute classic. Satomura would win that match, and also defeated Killer Kelly and Lacey Lane during the tournament.
Satomura has a reputation for being one of the hardest hitting performers in the world of wrestling, as well as one of the most technically sound. She is amongst the best of in the world, but with her commitments to her own promotion, and likely her age, there really isn’t a home in WWE for her.
Sasha Banks
Sasha Banks is someone who really doesn’t need much introduction, being amongst the most popular female wrestlers in the world today. The multi-time womens champion for WWE is a consistent show stealer when given the spotlight. She makes offense look like absolute murder, and her match with Bayley at NXT Takeover Brooklyn back in 2015 is often called the best womens match in company history.
She wrestled outside of WWE before signing, but really improved and made herself a star with WWE. They often will allow their talent to work in affiliate companies like Progress & Evolve, but never a star as big as Sasha Banks. If WWE would let Progress book this match, and Sasha was able to actually fulfill the booking, it would be an absolute classic. There are some logistics to figure out, but with WWE allegedly wanting to get Progress on the WWE Network, Sasha Banks vs. Meiko Satomaru for the Progress Womens Championship would be a hell of a main event for a Progress special on the Network.
Sasha Banks had this to say in response to Progress “I know y’all are definitely to poor to pay me my booking fee. But since this a dream match I’ll do it”
What do you think about this match potentially happening? Do you think WWE would actually let on of their biggest stars show up in a promotion outside of the company, even one they work with?
