Should The Undisputed Era Go After Lio Rush & The NXT Cruiserweight Championship?

The Undisputed Era completed what they dubbed ‘the prophecy’ when Roderick Strong defeated Velveteen Dream to become the NXT North American Champion. They hold all available gold. With Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish as NXT Tag Champions and Adam Cole as NXT Champion. While Adam Cole has nice enough hair to pass in a pinch, he was not eligible for the NXT Womens Championship, so they had all the power they could get in NXT.

But after they claimed all that gold, the WWE Crusierweight Championship was renamed to the NXT Crusierweight Championship. If we are to go by the weights listed on Wikipedia for the members of Undisputed Era, all but Adam Cole meet the 205lb weight limit they enforced.

Lio Rush has been a dominant champion after he won the belt from Drew Gulak. But could someone like Kyle O’Reilly be a threat he should keep his eyes pealed for?

Undisputed Era Member Kyle O’Reilly As A Singles Wrestler

While Kyle O’Reilly in NXT has been well proven as a tag team specialist, it’s important to remember he is a former Ring of Honor Champion, having beaten Adam Cole for the title at Final Battle 2016 in a bloody war, before losing it back to Adam Cole at Wrestle Kingdom. In NJPW, he took the then NEVER Openweight Champion Katsuyori Shibata to the limit. He also had some absolutely classic matches in the Juniors divison with KUSHIDA. Even without a partner to rely on, O’Reilly is an insanely dangerous submission expert who shouldn’t be overlooked. Coming in at 200 lbs, he could challenge for the NXT Cruiserweight Championship, and with the rest of Undisputed Era backing him, Lio Rush wouldn’t have an easy time overcoming. O’Reilly also faced former NXT Champion Aleister Black in his debut, taking him to the limit.

    The Price Of Complete Domination

While it would be fun to see them hold all available belts in NXT, it would risk them being over exposed on the brand. One of the best parts of NXT is their deep roster. While Undisputed Era are fan favorites despite being heels, people do enjoy variety. Lio Rush is a fantastic champion for the Cruiserweight Championship, and while it would be fun to see a member of Undisputed Era challenge for the title, I would like to see him continue to reign.

Lio Rush is currently in a feud with Angel Garza, who he defeated a few weeks back on NXT, then attacked backstage following his win against Isiah ‘Swerve’ Scott on the Takeover War Games Preshow. They are set to have another fantastic match in the coming weeks.
