Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here to finish up my coverage of tonight’s episode of WWE SmackDown. It was certainly, indisputably, very much an episode of Friday Night SmackDown. No doubt about that!
The original main event was set when the New Day interrupted King Corbin and Dolph Ziggler’s gloating over their dog food based assault on Roman Reigns the week before. Kofi Kingston and King Corbin got in each other’s face and after Kofi slapped the King, a one-on-one match between the two of them was set for later in the night.
All throughout the night there was incidentally an angle in which Corbin and Ziggler had sealed off all the entrances to keep Roman from getting into the building. However, as the night progressed, they saw their hired security being taken out one by one.
When the time came for the main event, it ended in controversy, as the ejected Dolph Ziggler came back to ringside to attack Big E, which led to a brawl on the floor involving all four men. This led to a No Contest, only for Big E to enter the ring and demand that the match be restarted as a tag team match. Then, finally, we had a main event… kinda.
You see my recap of how the show closed below:
The New Day vs. King Corbin & Dolph Ziggler
Ziggler with a Fameasser to E, cover for a nearfall. Corbin tags in. E fights back with a Belly To Belly outta nowhere! Tag to Kofi who comes in, flies all over the place, wants a tope but Corbin cuts him off! Ziggler superkicks E on the outside – Corbin and Ziggler then assault Kofi in the ring, with Corbin driving elbows until the ref calls for the bell?
Winners: The New Day (by DQ)
Afterwards they pull out more dog food and Kofi gets handcuffed to the post. E tries to help him out but Dash and Dawson emerge from the back and hit him with a Shatter Machine on the floor, terrible idea! It looks like Kofi is doomed to suffer a dog food flavored fate, only for Roman Reigns’ music to hit!
He rushes down to a huge pop, takes out absolutely everybody, including the security, The Revival, Ziggler, and finally hitting Corbin with a Superman Punch! Roman grabs the king’s scepter and the dog food as he goes over to Corbin. Ziggler with a superkick!
Ziggler then takes up a ladder as the Revival holds Reigns down onto a table! Ziggler goes up top! E makes the save though, taking the Revival out, Roman climbs the ladder and goozles Ziggler! Crowd is on their feet as Roman chokeslams him right off the ladder through the table!
Corbin watches on in terror from the ramp as Roman frees Kofi!
My prediction ended up coming true. Roman Reigns destroyed Dolph Ziggler, thereby writing him out of this story, atleast long enough to get a true one on one crack at Corbin this Sunday.
