Capping off this three day weekend of major wrestling shows, it’s another WWE PPV Sunday tonight! I know! It feels like we’ve just been here! If you’re counting WWE Starrcade, and really you shouldn’t but in some ways you can, WWE have run a PPV-level show on three of the last four Sundays! That is somewhat overkill! But it comes to a close tonight, as it’s our last big event before the Royal Rumble kicks off WrestleMania season! And before that we have an interesting night of action awaiting us in the form of WWE TLC!
Looking at this card, I can’t help but think this is one of those shows that’ll either be completely spectacular or a total disaster. Just sorta have that feeling. And yannow what, that’s pretty exciting! So let’s get to the previews.
WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship Ladder Match: The New Day (c) vs. The Revival
I feel like ever since I joined the Overtimer, I’ve been talking about Revival vs. New Day matches. This is not a complaint. These are two of the best teams in the game in my view and they’re natural rivals. The two tandems have had one really damn good tag team match after another, and I think it’s really only fitting that they close out 2019 with one last match, with a big time stip put to it just to set it apart from everything that we’ve seen thus far.
So this should be awesome, but who wins? And for me, this might actually be the hardest pick of the night. The Revival’s WWE status is always an interesting one to contemplate as most people really don’t expect them to still be here by next Summer. Still, every now and again it feels like WWE still really wanna try getting on Dash and Dawson’s good side, and they’ve shockingly won tag titles multiple times this year amidst rampant speculation of their leaving and turning down big contract offers. They’re probably the guys who are most obviously intending to jump ship once their contract is up, but WWE really doesn’t wanna see it happen.
Some days I’d think for sure the Revival can’t win with their leave still hanging in the balance. But then, there’s the fact that this is a ladder match which seemingly is waaaayy in the favor of the more modern and agile New Day. However, WWE has trained us to think anti-intuition, and that seeming like such an advantage somehow tells me that the Revival will find a way to win.
There is also the fact that for the past several months it’s been increasingly obvious that we need to get these titles onto Heavy Machinery and the Revival are definitely the right team for them to beat to get those titles.
