As we get very close to the Royal Rumble, we get a better picture of what Wrestlemania could look like. Usually, the Royal Rumble will get you a shot at one of the top titles in WWE at Wrestlemania. This year is interesting, in that Brock Lesnar is entering the Rumble as WWE Champion. He won’t be defending his championship in the match like Roman Reigns did in 2016. So what would happen if he is victorious after taking 29 other men to Suplex City?
Brock Lesnar Picks His Opponent
One possible scenario in a Brock victory is that he would be able to pick whoever he wants for his victim at Wrestlemania. This could lead to him challenging an old rival like The Undertaker, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, or Goldberg to a big match. He could also try and make things easy and pick what he views as an easy target.
WWE could build a fantastic underdog storyline with someone like Chad Gable as he could try to slay the beast in a classic David vs. Goliath matchup at Wrestlemania. With Wrestlemania itself being the draw, they have the chance to do creative matches like this at the event, no longer really needing massive matches like Stone Cold vs. The Rock to sell tickets.
Champion vs. Champion
Brock Lesnar is a conqueror. He might hold one of WWE’s top prizes, but he is the type who would want to have more control. We could see him go after The Fiend in a huge clash at Wrestlemania, and attempt to unify the championships. A long standing complaint in WWE from fans is that there are too many championships. Between RAW & Smackdown, there are 12 Championships right now. Having just one major prize between both brands that could float between as needed could help mitigate this issue.
Brock Lesnar vs. The Fiend would be a spectacle of a match. No one has more brute force than Brock Lesnar on the WWE roster. But no one can take more punishment than The Fiend. It would pose the age of old question of “What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object?”. Fans expected to see this match at Survivor Series, but instead they both defended their championships, which leaves fans wondering who could have won that match.
While Brock generally works best against more agile opponents like Seth Rollins & AJ Styles, he has had great hard hitting matches with people like The Undertaker. A match with The Fiend could be unforgettable if done correctly.
