Being inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame is one of the biggest accolades a wrestler can achieve. Taking your place in the annuls of history alongside people like Andre The Giant, Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, Roddy Piper and more. It truly cements a wrestlers legacy, the cherry on top of a fantastic career. However there are still many notable omissions from the Hall of Fame. One of these is The British Bulldog, Davey Boy Smith.
The British Bulldog And His Legend
For wrestling fans in the 80’s & 90’s, he is someone who needs no introduction. His career was one that constantly captivated fans. Be it as part of The British Bulldogs alongside Dynamite Kid, where they claimed tag team gold in WWF, AJPW, and Stampede Wrestling. He also succeeded as a singles star, notably beating Bret Hart in Wembley Stadium to become Intercontinental Champion at Summerslam in 1992 infront of 80,355 people. His career was the definition of legendary.
His power, skill and agility made him a strong contender for World Championship glory as well, but he was never able to capture it in either WWF or WCW. He faced the likes of Bret Hart & Shawn Micheals in well fought battles for the top prize.
His Legacy Lives On
Despite retiring in 2000 and tragically passing away in 2002 from a heart attack at only 39, his legacy lives on. Most notabley through his son, Davey Boy Smith Jr.. Smith Jr. had wrestled for WWE in the early 2010’s, and would make his name in NJPW as a tag team specialist. Now working for Major League Wrestling, he is one of their biggest stars as they rise in the wrestling landscape. Smith Jr. also took the mantel of British Bulldog for the ill-fated World Of Sport revival. World Of Sport being the promotion where his father made his debut back in 1978. Should Davey Boy get inducted, his son will do the honor of a speech to solidify the moment.
With wrestlers like Paige asking for his induction, and his legacy as one of the most colorful stars of the golden age of wrestling, it is only a matter of time before he ends up where he belongs. Some like Owen Hart might never make it in due to outside factors, but The Hart Foundation might be complete in the Hall Of Fame someday.
