Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here on what is sure to be a long night… but the first part of it is over, and undoubtedly it’s the one that was gonna be the hardest in many ways. WWE SmackDown went off the air about ten minutes ago as of this writing. It was the first live show of 2020 and they kicked the year off with a number of surprises and returns.
Sheamus and John Morrison each had returns of their own early in the show. Sheamus pretended to make the save for Shorty G after he was being beaten down by the Revival, only to turn around and hit him with a Brogue Kick, cementing that he will remain a heel and likely feud with Shorty G. John Morrison meanwhile had a more casual return, stepping out of the Miz’s locker room to inform an interviewer that he wouldn’t be speaking to anyone else for the night. It would appear that he’s here to help his old friend in these trying times and will perhaps be teaming with him again going forward.
Then, the main event occurred, which saw Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns face off with King Corbin and Dolph Ziggler in tag team action. This bout ended without a conclusive winner however after the Fiend made an appearance to attack Bryan. With Bryan laid out, Roman was vulnerable to a 2-on-1 beatdown from Corbin and Ziggler, who cuffed him to the ropes and were ready to bathe him in dog food once more.
But that was when the Usos made their return to make the save!
The crowd at WWE TLC actually chanted for the Usos during the extraordinarily unfair beatdown of Roman during his match with King Corbin, but the return was not to be on that night. But I suppose that gave them the idea to actually go ahead and do it here instead!
This is the first appearance for either man since July. They were both taken off of TV after Jimmy was arrested for a DUI, his second arrest of the year. Jimmy’s wife Naomi has similarly not been seen on WWE TV since the incident but one would think her return is also imminent now.
