This past week on Monday Night RAW, we saw Kevin Owens & Samoe Joe face Seth Rollins & Buddy Murphy for the RAW Tag Team Championships. It would become a handicap match in favour of the champions as Samoa Joe would go down with injury. Kevin Owens fought back valiantly, but would fall to the numbers disadvantage. It was odd to come back from a commercial break, and suddenly Samoa Joe was gone. It has been reported that during the match, Joe would suffer a concussion
When Was The Injury Suffered?
During the match, Samoa Joe took the air as he dove through the ropes to the outside onto the floor. He would be taken backstage after this to be checked out, leaving Kevin Owens on his own. Samoa Joe had only just returned from injury in December, after suffering a broken thumb. It has almost become tradition that when things are looking up for Joe, he falls to injury.
This has also raised a debate amongst fans if someone like Samoa Joe should be diving to the outside on a weekly basis at his age. While in his prime this was fine, he is 40 years old now and has lots of wear and tear on his body. His hard hitting and submission based style is what people watch him for, not to watch him try to defy gravity.
When Should Samoa Joe Be Back?
While a concussion is a serious injury, and repeated incidents can force someone into retirement; it can usually only put someone out for a few weeks. Thankfully this ties in well with the current storyline on Monday Night RAW, as it allows Seth Rollins to say he knocked another of his detractors down. Having him gloat about this will just make it all the sweeter when Joe re-emerges and locks Seth into his signature rear naked choke. They will be able to easily make this into a positive, and it could serve to just boost the popularity of Samoa Joe.
We here at The Overtimer wish Samoa Joe a speedy recovery, and hope to see him back in action very soon. Do you think following this injury, Samoa Joe should remove the suicide dive from his moveset, or was this just a freak accident? Let us know your thoughts on the comment section down below.
