At the Royal Rumble, fans witnessed the return of Montel Vontavious Porter, better known as MVP. He would enter at Number 12 in the rumble to a great reaction, before taking the fight to Brock Lesnar in a failure of an effort. He would then show that it was not a one off the next night on RAW, when he would face Rey Mysterio in a losing effort. The 46 year old seems to be gearing up for one last run at glory in WWE, will be successful in this?
MVP As The Next United States Champion?
It was recently announced that current United States Champion Andrade was suspended for violating the wellness policy. This leaves the titles status in the air. With Andrade gone from TV for 30 days, and the United States Championship being the main singles belt that actually shows up on Monday Night RAW, it is likely to be made vacant and put up for grabs. While he was unsuccessful in defeating Rey Mysterio earlier this week, he is a two time holder of the championship.
Those two reigns put him as the fifth reigning champion in the belts history, with them lasting 410 days. Only Blackjack Mulligan, Greg Valentine, Ric Flair and Lex Luger spent more time as champion. This leaves MVP as the only active competitor in the top 5 champions in the belts history. That accolade alone should secure his spot in the match or tournament to crown a new champion, and make him a potential favorite to win it all.
Joining The Street Profits
One of the hottest new tag teams in all of WWE is Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins. The former NXT Tag Team Champions are becoming fan favorites on Monday Night RAW, and they posted a picture to social media of them backstage with MVP. Where MVP is getting up there in age, he might not be sticking around to wrestle full time. He is far from feeble, holding a purple belt in Brazlian Jui-Jitsu, but the WWE schedule can be a brutal one. Putting someone with his experience in the corner of The Street Profits could be their ticket to major success in WWE.
