Fans were prepared to see the young wrestling prodigy compete in action. Austin Theory made his way down to the ring for another match on the Black & Gold brand. Before his scheduled opponent could make their way to the ring, he instead got the loser from the NXT Championship match at NXT Takeover Portland.
Tomassao Ciampa was betrayed by his old partner and rival Johnny Gargano, a reversal of fate from their past when Ciampa turned on Gargano. Gargano would cost him the NXT Championship, and prevent Ciampa from getting his career back where he wants it to be. He never lost the NXT Championship when he was on top, he gave it up due to a neck injury.
Tomassao Ciampa Knows Why Gargano Did It
Ciampa had a laser focus on the NXT Championship, and didn’t pay attention to the world around him. He reunited with Gargano to fend off Undisputed Era and face Moustache Mountain at Worlds Collide, but everything felt wrong. There was something off. Everyone felt it, except Ciampa. His tunnel vision towards the NXT Championship blinded him.
He forgot that Gargano has always been tied to him when it came to the NXT Championship, and should have expected this to happen. Before he could finish his promo, a scorned Austin Theory would try and take a cheap shot at Ciampa only to be laid out. Ciampa would grab the microphone and keep going to say “If I want to get my life back, there must be no Johnny Gargano in NXT.”
Their next encounter will likely be the last we see of them. They are finally going to destroy each other. With both riddled with injuries and wrestling on borrowed time, we very well could see one of these men retire early to preserve their bodies.
Psycho Killer Brutalizes Austin Theory
Theory came to NXT this week to compete, and he would try to take a cheap shot at Ciampa once he had left the ring. If Theory could have taken out Ciampa he would be a star. Unfortunately, Ciampa was not in the mood to play nice. He forgave the first attack, but the second one lead to the young Theory having the tar beaten out of him at ringside by the Psycho Killer. Ciampa snapped and saw some of Gargano in Theory as he would maul the young man, whipping him into the steel barricades until welts formed on the back of Theory.
