Did it sneak up on you? You’re surely not the only one, but WWE Super Show-Down occurs today. It’s about two hours away as of the time of this posting. In a true David vs. Goliath match, perhaps the one to end them all, Brock Lesnar defends the WWE Championship against Ricochet. I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer and you can expect to see the results of each and every match on the show before long, plus a full preview of everything you can expect to see on the card.
I’m pretty naturally sour on these Saudi shows, and Lord knows the last one was something of a disaster, though it turned out okay in the end. Amazingly, they’re going ahead and doing this the exact same way, with the show taking place the day before SmackDown. They’re also flying via Atlas Air again ’cause why not? Only cowards learn lessons… ah well. Here’s hoping we don’t get a repeat of that fiasco. Now, that aside, let’s get onto the previews.
WWE Championship: Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Ricochet
It’s kinda funny. Ricochet, to me, is in very much the same spot that Dean Ambrose was in a few years ago. We had this match clearly setup between Roman Reigns and Triple H, the obvious headlining Mania match for the title, when suddenly in came Ambrose. The monkey wrench thrown into the mix, ready to totally reroute the Road to WrestleMania. It was a pretty exciting thing, helped by the fact that he was legitimately one of the most over babyfaces going at that point in time. Ricochet is basically playing that same role here, except to much lesser effect.
This should be fun, don’t get me wrong. Ricochet’s an incredible talent, Brock likes having kickass matches with little dudes when he can. But it’s about as foregone a conclusion as any title match I’ve ever seen. They’ve done everything in their power to beat it over your heads that Ricochet has absolutely no chance. Paul Heyman, a guy who always goes out of his way to make Lesnar’s challengers sound awesome, vehemently hammered home that Ricochet had absolutely no chance. And I’m here to tell you that, sadly, Ricochet has absolutely no chance. Brock Lesnar to retain, and presumably have smooth sailing heading into the match with Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania.
