Did it sneak up on you? You’re surely not the only one, but WWE Super Show-Down occurs today. It’s about two hours away as of the time of this posting. Today, homegrown Saudi Arabian star Mansoor takes on the ever deplorable Dolph Ziggler in singles action. I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer and you can expect to see the results of each and every match on the show before long, plus a full preview of everything you can expect to see on the card.
I’m pretty naturally sour on these Saudi shows, and Lord knows the last one was something of a disaster, though it turned out okay in the end. Amazingly, they’re going ahead and doing this the exact same way, with the show taking place the day before SmackDown. They’re also flying via Atlas Air again ’cause why not? Only cowards learn lessons… ah well. Here’s hoping we don’t get a repeat of that fiasco. Now, that aside, let’s get onto the previews.
Mansoor vs. Dolph Ziggler
Mansoor is touted as WWE’s first Saudi Arabian wrestler and regardless of circumstance, he is an easy one to root for. Always coming across as naturally likeable, hard working and undoubtedly talented. In spite of being so infrequently featured elsewhere in WWE’s landscape, Mansoor is arguably already a star in his home country, with his victories often receiving the biggest pops of these shows. He’s also impressed many, particularly with his bout against Cesaro at Crown Jewel last go-round. I’m sure they’re hoping for a similar result here drawing him against Ziggler.
Now we’re here at a funny spot, a true rarity; this is an instance in WWE where beating Dolph Ziggler is actually not the best idea. His involvement in his storyline with Otis Dozovic, genuinely one of SmackDown’s more major angles atleast going by fan response, actually has some heat on him for once. If ever there was a time to protect him in the past like three or four years, one could argue it’d be now.
Thankfully, these Saudi shows are largely ignored, almost considered non-canonical by a lot of people. So taking a loss here really won’t affect him at all like it would for almost any other show WWE would put him on. Thus letting Mansoor do his main job of getting the feel-good wins on these shows. Mansoor over.
