The former NXT UK Tag Champions have been making a splash on NXT as of late. They made it all the way to the finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, only to be trumped by Matt Riddle and Pete Dunne. They remain one of the best tag team units in all of WWE, and they have come to NXT to stay this time.
Their opponents have been lighting each other up in fast paced matches on 205 Live, before coming together to form a lightning quick tag team. Raul Mendoza is known to fans from the Cruiserweight Classic, and Joaquin Wilde was formely known as DJ Z, an Impact Wrestling X-Division Champion.
With one team being one of the best in WWE, and the other teaming up for the very first time, the result was obvious. Grizzled Young Veterans had fallen to the new team of Riddle & Dunne, and they wouldn’t let this happen again.
Grizzled Young Veterans defeat Raul Mendoza & Joaquin Wilde
It would be an exciting tag team encounter, and Wilde & Mendoza would mesh well as a team for their first time teaming up. Once they get more experience as a team, they might get on the same level as Grizzled Young Veterans someday. This day was not today. Any time Wilde & Mendoza would get anything resembling an advantage, their bigger, stronger and more experienced opponents would use their chemistry to shut them down.
One Ticket To Mayhem later and Grizzled Young Veterans would notch a victory over the new tag team.
Will We See Grizzled Young Veterans Face The Broserweights?
With GYV joining the NXT tag team division full time, they will be looking to redeem their loss to Riddle & Dunne and become the first team to hold both the NXT & NXT UK tag team championships. They came close to beating Riddle & Dunne in the past, and with one more shot they could easily defeat them.
That being said, Riddle & Dunne have been improving as a tag team with every outing and defeated one of the best tag teams in NXT history in Portland. They are arguably already not the same team who beat the Grizzled Young Veterans, which will make another encounter from these teams very interesting.
