At the Royal Rumble, we heard a theme song hit for the first time in a very long time. This was the theme song of MVP, who had been gone from WWE since 2010 that we had seen him, and he took the fight right to Brock Lesnar. He wasn’t successful, and would be eliminated. The next night on Monday Night RAW, he would face Rey Mysterio in an impressive matchup, where he was again unsuccessful. This had many people interested in what would be next for him. Was he back full time? Would he go for the United States championship again? Whatever the future holds, it doesn’t involve wrestling in WWE.
MVP Has Wrestled His Final WWE Match
Following the encounter on Monday Night RAW, MVP took to Instagram to let fans know that that would be the last you’ll see of him in the ring.
MVP also noted that his sons favorite wrestler is Rey Mysterio, making this final performance all the more important. MVP is likely to still compete a bit more, but once he is done, he will likely be finding himself working with WWE in a backstage role. There is still a bit more business for MVP to take care of.
Will We See MVP Show Up In New Japan One More Time?
While it sounds odd for MVP to have a past with New Japan Pro Wrestling, he has an interesting history with the company. He was the first man to hold the IWGP Intercontinental Championship, and worked heavily for NJPW in 2010 & 2011. He was last seen there in 2012 where he teamed with Manabu Nakanishi, Strong Man & Akebono to defeat the CHAOS unit of Takashi Iizuka, Toru Yano, Yujiro Takahashi, & Bob Sapp at Wrestle Kingdom 7 in the Tokyo Dome.
His rumble appearance showed that he is still a well liked star in the USA, and fans would be happy to see him on one of the shows NJPW is set to run in the USA this year. He defeated Tetsuya Naito back in the initial tournament to win the Intercontinental Championship. I doubt fans would be opposed to seeing them have another match as a step on the MVP retirement tour.
