WWE Monday Night Raw rages on after that opening segment. Lana making her out now for the first match of the night, a rematch with Liv Morgan – after this match came the surprise return of Ruby Riott!
Lana vs. Liv Morgan
Liv shoves her down, Lana immediately fakes an arm injury. Liv isn’t really buying it but the ref forces her to back up and Lana gets her with a shot, after a few tries… chinlock. “Rusev Day” chant as Liv fights up only to get taken down with a trip. Lana poses, says she’s the best. Liv surprises her with a Codebreaker! To the ropes, rushes in, Springing Flatliner! Aaaaand okay, that’s that.
Winner: Liv Morgan
I mean, that is good. If you want someone to be taken seriously as a women’s wrestler, she should be utterly obliterating Lana any time she gets her hands on her. And she does legitimately continue to look leagues ahead of her, as one would hope.
But now, out comes Ruby Riott making her surprise return!
I guess she just barely missed being cleared for the Rumble! Liv looks overjoyed to see her and Ruby smiling as well as she comes into the ring to reunite with her old Riott Squad buddy. Chant of “Ruby”. Liv comes in for a hug… Ruby surprises her with an STO! Ruby stomps her into the mat, and Lana helps. Ruby leaves the ring, the lights go out on the ring as the camera stays on it by mistake for a very long time. After finally clipping to an illuminated Ruby laughing on the ramp for a moment, we’re back in the ring with the lights on to see Lana hit her little X-Factor on Liv to leave her laying.
I actually kind of appreciated this. Lana just straight-up can’t actually deal with Liv on her own, so she brings in someone who can actually fight her. That is like, hilariously necessary in this situation for Liv to gain any credibility whatsoever. And in a way I do think she is, if only because she entered this angle coming from the very bottom. That’s really the only saving grace of it all, it’s a rise for her by default and people do respond to visible rises.
Also, nice to see Ruby back! Was hoping to see her at the Rumble, always was a fan.
