Did it sneak up on you? You’re surely not the only one, but WWE Super Show-Down occurs today. It’s about two hours away as of the time of this posting. In a truly unique battle, we have an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object when the Fiend Bray Wyatt defends the WWE Universal Championship against the legendary Bill Goldberg. I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer and you can expect to see the results of each and every match on the show before long, plus a full preview of everything you can expect to see on the card.
I’m pretty naturally sour on these Saudi shows, and Lord knows the last one was something of a disaster, though it turned out okay in the end. Amazingly, they’re going ahead and doing this the exact same way, with the show taking place the day before SmackDown. They’re also flying via Atlas Air again ’cause why not? Only cowards learn lessons… ah well. Here’s hoping we don’t get a repeat of that fiasco. Now, that aside, let’s get onto the previews.
WWE Universal Championship: The Fiend Bray Wyatt (c) vs. Bill Goldberg
And so, finally, we have this. I think it’s fair to say that a full calendar year ago, nobody on the planet would’ve predicted that we would ever see world champion Bray Wyatt defending his title against Goldberg. But pro wrestling in 2020 is a truly strange beast that simply defies all logic and prediction sometimes. This match is happening and in all likelihood, it will be bathed in red lights in spite of what a bad reception that gimmick gets every single time. Judging by live events, the Strap match was a special case with the lights gone just to let you see the red welts on Bryan’s back.
So yeah. This match will… probably take less time to go down than I’m taking to write it as we speak. The story of the match will probably see Goldberg repeatedly hit Fiend with everything he has, which is to say a few Spears and a Jackhammer only for him to keep getting back up. This persists until A) the Fiend stops getting back up or B) Goldberg is so worn down that he becomes beatable. It could go either way, but personally I’m gonna say the Fiend retains.
