Did it sneak up on you? You’re surely not the only one, but WWE Super Show-Down occurs today. It’s about two hours away as of the time of this posting. Today, a six-person gauntlet match will take place, where the winner will be awarded the Tuwaiq Trophy. I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer and you can expect to see the results of each and every match on the show before long, plus a full preview of everything you can expect to see on the card.
I’m pretty naturally sour on these Saudi shows, and Lord knows the last one was something of a disaster, though it turned out okay in the end. Amazingly, they’re going ahead and doing this the exact same way, with the show taking place the day before SmackDown. They’re also flying via Atlas Air again ’cause why not? Only cowards learn lessons… ah well. Here’s hoping we don’t get a repeat of that fiasco. Now, that aside, let’s get onto the previews.
Six-Man Gauntlet Match For The Tuwaiq Trophy: AJ Styles vs. Andrade vs. Bobby Lashley vs. Erick Rowan vs. R-Truth vs. Rey Mysterio
This match was originally going to have Rusev in it, whom we haven’t seen a ton of since the year began. He ended up pulling out of the match, supposedly due to a back injury although there’s some ambiguity there. Lord knows he’s the subject of contract dispute rumors pretty much every other month. Rey Mysterio subbed in for the Bulgarian Brute. Another little tidbit is that this marks the official return of United States Champion Andrade, whose suspension expired just in time for this show. It’s his first appearance since being Hammerlock DDT’d onto concrete by Humberto Carrillo.
All that said, this is their gimmick this time around, the token special one-off prize that they like to do for Saudi Arabian shows, this time a gauntlet for the Tuwaiq Trophy. They love to give heels these things and looking at the lay of the land, I’m gonna say Bobby Lashley is the most likely winner. Rusev was gonna be here originally and I figure the initial plan would’ve seen Lashley eliminate him last. But with Rusev being taken out of the match last minute, he can still very much win this and lord it over him for the foreseeable future.
