If you look deep into the WWE roster, you will realize that EC3 is still employed with the company. The former Impact World Champion has been missing from WWE since September of last year, with his last noted appearance being a Main Event taping where he teamed with Eric Young in a losing effort to Lucha House Party. It’s been speculated he has been sidelined due to injury, specifically a concussion. Even before this, he was not a frequently used talent for WWE. WWE realizes that they don’t have many plans for him, as they have abandoned attempts to get the EC3 trademark from him. They would be able to resubmit for it at any time, but for the moment EC3 is the undisputed holder of his name and character.
Could EC3 Be Released Soon?
With fresh talent constantly entering the WWE machine, releases happen. There isn’t enough spots for every wrestler, and there is no reason to keep someone on payroll if they’re not needed when it comes to a huge company like WWE. They have enough talent in reserve to reseed their entire roster should they ever have to, and tragically for EC3, there are people who would outrank him even then.
Between his dwindling status in the company and them not even bothering to try and secure his trademark, the writing could be on the wall for EC3. He has proven that he can be a huge star elsewhere, where he was the face of Impact Wrestling for several years, so sometimes WWE just isn’t for you. Some like Drew McIntyre will leave and become stars and get rewards, but EC3 proves that won’t always work out.
Where Could He Pop Up?
If EC3 is to be released back into the wrestling landscape, there are many companies who could use someone with his skillset. Of course Impact Wrestling would be a promising option, with his storied legacy in the promotion. AEW could use him, but they have MJF who fills the same niche that EC3 would be placed into. Ring Of Honor are on the rise again, and EC3 would be an excellent get there to add some much needed charisma to their roster.
Wherever he pops up, fans simply want to be able to see him compete at a high level once again. He is a horribly misused talent in WWE, and people are forgetting what made him a star.
