NXT UK has not become the worldwide success that Triple H once envisioned. It has one of the best weekly shows going, and the talent pool is incredible, but it simply hasn’t connected well with audiences. They recently got a showcase in the USA with Worlds Collide, when their talent clashed with that of NXT in a fantastic showing. One of the first matches announced involved Finn Balor taking on Ilja Dragonauv. While Balor defeated the Mad Russian after a hard hitting match, it is far too soon to count Dragonauv out. He is also a favorite of Triple H, who claimed to be obsessed with the 26 year old.
Will Ilja Dragonauv Be The One To Take Out WALTER?
While WALTER has been having a fantastic reign as NXT UK Champion, there will always be someone who will eventually overcome any champion. With the backing of the boss, and his insane skill in the ring, Dragonauv is a top contender to be your next NXT UK Champion. Right now, Dave Mastiff is being groomed for a shot against WALTER, which is likely to happen on NXT UK, not a Takeover.
Ilja has been feuding with Imperium for quite some time, and this could come to a head with him facing their leader. We could see Dragonauv take on WALTER as part of NXT Takeover Tampa, as NXT UK needs as much exposure as possible. This could pose an issue for Ilja though.
Poor Crowd Reaction In North America
At Worlds Collide, Ilja Dragonauv came to the ring to very little reaction. Even during his match with Finn Balor, he was not able to get the crowd behind him. Finn Balor is a huge star in North America, so it is hard to get cheered over him, but fans were simply not buying into Ilja as a performer. On the other hand, in the UK he gets some of the best reactions of the entire roster. He has made his name known overseas, and that simply has not travelled over yet. Because of his, he would risk getting a poor reaction to a title win in Tampa, as WALTER is the more recognized name. It would be best for this reason to wait for the next NXT UK Takeover, and have Ilja become champion then.
