In the main event of last nights NXT Takeover event, we saw NXT Champion Adam Cole retain his title after a hard fought battle with Tommaso Ciampa. This came with much help, as the rest of The Undisputed Era would get involved, as well as someone unexpected. When Johnny Gargano came to the ringside area, fans expected that now the odds were a bit more even. We recently saw Gargano & Ciampa reunite to face off with Undisputed Era, as well as face Moustache Mountain at Worlds Collide. It seemed things were good in the #DIY camp. However, Gargano would smash the NXT Championship into the face of Ciampa, reigniting their classic rivalry with the roles reversed. This time people will be asking Johnny why he did it.
Unfinished Business
While their issues seemed to be water under the bridge at this point, it is important to remember they never finished their feud. Ciampa would go down with a serious neck injury, preventing their final encounter from happening. Instead we would see Gargano defeat Adam Cole to become NXT Champion, with Ciampa coming out to support his longtime rival. This was far from a satisfying conclusion to this insane feud where they spent months finding new ways to inflict punishment on each other. Fans will now get to see what would have happened if Ciampa didn’t get hurt, as they will pick up right where they left off.
Johnny Gargano Wasn’t Waiting To Be Turned On Again
The first time DIY exploded, it was because Tommaso Ciampa attacked Johnny Gargano. They have teamed up again since that moment, but the same level of trust was never found. Gargano has been rightfully skeptical of his old partner, knowing he could be beat down at any time. Instead of waiting for that to happen, he simply took matters into his own hands. While this cowardly attack will lead to him getting beat down by the crazed Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny atleast can brace himself for it now, as he knows it is coming.
This will almost certainly lead to Tommaso Ciampa facing Johnny Gargano at NXT Takeover Tampa. Their previous encounters were some of the best in NXT history, and we will see Ciampa enter as the face this time around creating a new dynamic.
