At NXT Takeover Portland, we saw Johnny Gargano lose to Finn Balor early in the night, and then come out an cost Tommaso Ciampa his NXT Championship match to end the night. This shocked many fans, as he and Ciampa were finally on good terms again. They were part of the most intense feud in NXT history together, going from NXT Tag Team Champions to fierce rivals in a single action from Ciampa at NXT Takeover Chicago in 2017. They never got to finish their feud, as Ciampa would injure his neck and would vacate the NXT Championship.
Ciampa Needs Johnny Gargano Out Of NXT
This shocking turn of events forced Tommaso Ciampa to realize that if he ever wants to hold the NXT Championship again, he needs to ensure Johnny Gargano is no longer in NXT. With them having an obvious match coming at NXT Takeover Tampa, we can expect this to turn into a ‘Loser Leaves NXT’ match.
Gargano has been spinning his wheels in NXT since losing to Adam Cole in New York, and while the feud with Finn Balor gave fans some great moments and a fantastic match, there isn’t much left for Johnny Wrestling to do in NXT. He has won every title, and beaten just about everyone there is to beat. While NXT always has new talent coming in, this requires people to leave to give them a place.
Will Gargano Sink Or Swim On RAW or Smackdown?
In the past, it has been noted that Johnny Gargano fought a callup to NXT, and this was likely due to unfinished business with Ciampa. Their feud never got it’s conclusion, which is something fans have been desperate to see. Once that business is out of the way at Takeover Tampa, there will be little left for Gargano in NXT.
With the RAW after Wrestlemania being a known place for huge debut moments, we could see Johnny Gargano use that as a way to make a splash on the brand. Should Andrade remain United States Champion to that point, we could see them reignite their NXT rivalry over that championship, and have more amazing matches in the process.
