It is Monday again, and we all have our feelings about Monday… after all, it’s the night of WWE Monday Night Raw! Tonight, a match that we’ve seen many, many times before in NXT finally makes it’s way to Raw when Kairi Sane takes on Shayna Baszler! I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here to report on the show with the same full coverage you’ve come to expect! That means you’ll be getting the results from every segment of the show, plus links to recaps moments after they conclude! Not to mention full previews of everything that’s on tap this evening!
We have an usually stacked card tonight for a WWE TV show, atleast it feels that way to me. It’s not every day we come into Raw with four matches announced, among other things. And they all have potential to be really, really good ones as well! On paper, this looks like a great night of wrestling action, so let’s get into it!
Shayna Baszler vs. Kairi Sane
So last week, we saw a bit of a unique sight when six women showed up for one contract signing, leading up to this weekend’s Elimination Chamber, where they’d all be fighting it out for a shot at WWE Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch. During that event, a brawl broke out, of course, and Becky herself also got involved. But before all that, one of the main confrontations was between Shayna and Asuka, two women who have never clashed before.
That was to setup a match for tonight, as announced a couple of days ago. However, per WWE’s own reporting, a wrist injury is keeping her out of this match. And so her partner Kairi Sane will be filling in for her instead. Depending on how severe that injury is, Kairi could potentially replace Asuka in the Chamber match as well. She’s a logical substitute, but I’m curious if they’ll take the opportunity to bring up the lengthy history Shayna and Kairi have together. Sane defeated Shayna in the finals of the first-ever Mae Young Classic, starting a rivalry that spanned tons of follow-up bouts, many of them for the NXT Women’s Championship.
Either way, doesn’t take a genius to call this one. Shayna’s likely to run roughshod through everybody until she challenges Becky at WrestleMania. Baszler over.
