At the 2020 Royal Rumble, Edge returned to the ring for the first time in over 9 years. He would dish out spears to many men, including AJ Styles. This would injure the arm of Styles, as he landed awkwardly on his shoulder after the impact of the spear. Due to this, many believed Styles would be the Wrestlemania opponent of Edge. That was not how things worked out, with Edge entering a feud with Randy Orton and AJ Styles provoking The Undertaker for their Wrestlemania matches. Despite this, it will be a match that will happen, and sometime soon.
Edge Lists Several Dream Opponents
After spending nine years on the shelf and watching a new crop of talent pop up, he has a list of names within WWE he wants to meet in the ring. Speaking with ESPN, he mentioned several dream opponents; including AJ Styles.
“AJ Styles and Edge has to happen, in 25 years in the same industry, we’ve never touched. How is that possible? Guy like Roman Reigns, man, he’s special. He’s a leader, and he needs other leaders, and that’s what I can be. We felt a little bit of that at the Rumble, too. Seth Rollins has to happen. Kevin Owens, Cesaro, Nakumura, Sami Zayn, Aleister Black for sure, Matt Riddle, WALTER, Tommaso Ciampa, Velveteen Dream. Give them all to me, man. I just want to come in and work my tuchus off and have fun.”
This list shows that Edge simply wants to get in the ring with some of the best around, and have some fun with wrestling now that he is back.
Could He Face AJ Styles At Summerslam?
Provided the situation of COVID-19 calms down by that point, Summerslam will be a huge event for WWE, almost taking the role of Wrestlemania. You need big matches for an event like that, and one of them could be the first time clash of these major stars. Their only meeting was a single spear in the Royal Rumble, but they are masters of their craft and could do something truly special. The match with Randy Orton will be more akin to a brutal fight, a way to show fans Edge isn’t fragile despite his neck issues, but a match with AJ Styles will show he can still work with the best in the game.
