At NXT Takeover Tampa, we will see a six woman ladder match to decide a number one contender for the NXT Women’s Championship. We have already seen Chelsea Green make her way into this match, and we would see Mia Yim face Dakota Kai for the next slot in the match. Kai is coming in with some big momentum after two big wins over her rival Tegan Nox, all thanks to her new partner in Raquel Gonzales. With her insurance policy at ringside, she had some serious confidence going into this match.
Mia Yim Is Going To NXT Takeover Tampa
The match would start very quick, as Dakota Kai would go for a dropkick as the bell rang. Yim would side step and go for a quick roll up for a two count. They would trade some heavy strikes as they went back and forth looking for a solid advantage over the other. Both are fairly evenly matched, and need this chance making it a very heated encounter. Dakota Kai would go for her signature flipping backstabber for a two count.
She would attempt a heavy kick in the corner, but Yim had it scouted and countered into a powerbomb. She would make the pin too close to the ropes, and Gonzalzes would take this chance to get involved. This would draw the attention of the referee, who would miss a visual pinfall by Dakota Kai. After this, Yim would quickly hit her finisher to punch her ticket to NXT Takeover Tampa.
Raquel Gonzalzes Lays Out Mia Yim
Frustrated that she had costed her new pal Dakota Kai a match, Gonzalez would attack Mia Yim and lay her out with a brutal chokeslam, much like she did weeks ago after Yim had a match with Xia Li. With Gonzalez being such a dominant force, we can expect her to get a chance to qualify for this ladder match, where the NXT roster will finally get a chance at revenge on the powerhouse from Texas. This loss takes Dakota Kai out of the NXT Women’s Championship picture, at least for the moment.
