The last episodes of RAW & Smackdown were very odd for viewers. You didn’t get much actual new wrestling, but instead long replays of PPV matches and promos to hype to coming Wrestlemania. With everything so uncertain due to the looming threat ofCOVID-19, WWE could be taping content for future episodes of RAW, Smackdown & NXT behind the closed doors of the WWE Performance Center.
WWE Could Be Planning For The Long Term
Wrestlemania is set to happen in a very unique form, and the recent episodes are promoting that show as heavily as possible. We don’t know for sure what is happening in the WWE Performance Center due to no fans and tight lips from talent. We have seen the Tag Team Elimination Chamber and Men’s Royal Rumble matches aired to fill time, as well as several pre-taped promos and video packages. This could be due to WWE not knowing how to deal with not having a live audience, or they could be using their time wisely to tape content for future episodes in-case the world wide situation somehow gets worse.
It Wouldn’t Matter If It Was Live If Spoilers Didn’t Get Out
Without a crowd to instantly post everything that happens to social media like with the taped shows that are done in the United Kingdom, there would be very little risk of spoilers. It just requires the talent involved to keep the secret. Fans will watch regardless if it is taped or live, for years at the start RAW was taped and Smackdown only went live in recent years, with a similar situation for NXT. Talent are used to being used for long taping sessions, and this is a situation that could call for this type of taping.
If they had a decent backlog of fresh content to splice in with recent or even classic PPV matches, that could be enough to keep WWE afloat on TV for the coming weeks of uncertainty.
