It has been stated so many times now that the NXT Women’s division is the best in the world, and they have shown this many times over. The pool of talent is so deep, that it is never hard to have someone ready to challenge for the NXT Women’s Championship. With Charlotte Flair having returned to the brand to prove she is the best once again, it has shown that there could be a need for another title for the women of NXT to challenge for, and Dakota Kai has now mentioned this.
Dakota Kai Wants A Midcard Women’s Championship
In NXT, one of the most presitgious championships is the North American Championship held by Keith Lee. Despite this, it is technically the ‘midcard’ title of NXT, on the same level as the United States or Intercontential Championship. It is a title used as a stepping stone to the NXT Championship, or to help give someone a shine whiile that title is locked into a heavy feud. Having a female equivalent could be the ticket to some excellent matches and feuds.
One person who wants this is Dakota Kai, who has mentioned this during an interview with Sports Illustrated. “Having another title within the women’s division would be so feasible for us. There are so many talented women. There are storylines outside of the title picture, and with another title, those would be fighting for something. Last summer at TakeOver: Toronto, Io Shirai and Candice LeRae had a match on the card—and this year at TakeOver in Portland, Tegan and I had a match, so another title would be used well. There are so many talented women, so a secondary title isn’t a crazy idea.”
NXT For Life?
From the same interview, Kai would also talk about potentially being in NXT for the duration of her WWE career. Others like Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa have declared their intent to do exactly this, and we could add Dakota Kai to that list.
“I would absolutely love that. My heart is with the NXT brand. Ever since we went live on USA last year, it’s now more realistic than we can stay in NXT. That’s not to say that, in the future, Raw or SmackDown are completely off the table to me, but there is a certain family element in NXT that you can’t get anywhere else. That comes back to what I was saying about the NXT women’s division. We all want the best for the brand, and that’s hard to come by. I would love to stay here.”
