No matter what else is going on, we’re here. We’ve made it through the week. And WWE truly is going through with this. Regardless of what anyone thinks, regardless of what’s right or wrong, WrestleMania 36 is upon us. And it’s a bizarre thing to say the least. We’re about to see WrestleMania play out over the span of two nights with nobody there to see any of it live. The whole world is in disarray right now. WWE is no different, no matter how much they might want to pretend that what happens outside their bubble has no bearing on them. One match that will likely feel the lack of response particularly hard is the long-awaited grudge bout between Otis Dozovic and Dolph Ziggler.
It was only over the past year that I started writing about wrestling for a living. And let me tell you, I would not have guessed the first WrestleMania I covered would be anything like this. Regardless… my name is Jordan Huie and I’m truly glad to have you here with us at the Overtimer. You can rest assured that we’ll be giving you the same coverage as always for WrestleMania. This year’s version, if nothing else, will be totally unlike any edition that’s come before or any edition we’ll ever see in the future. So with that said… let’s get to the previews, as I have plenty left to write.
(Note: At the time of writing, WWE have not announced which matches will be airing on which day.)
Otis Dozovic vs. Dolph Ziggler
This one has been in the works for a while. A storyline that’s been received perhaps more critically than commercially, the lovable Otis Dozovic has found himself in a seemingly hopeless romantic angle with Mandy Rose. Against all odds, the awkward big man managed to endear himself to her and they were set to have a Valentine’s Day date. But he got a text from her that told him she was running late when, in actuality, she was not. As a result, Otis showed up late instead and by the time he got there, Dolph Ziggler was sitting at the table with her. Mandy was led to believe Otis had stood her up and hasn’t given him the time of day since and it’s left Otis quite heartbroken.
To make matters worse, Dolph has been repeatedly rubbing it in Otis’ face, even going so far as to show him a series of pictures of him and Mandy out on the town together. This past Friday on SmackDown, the truth of all this was revealed when the hacker whose symbol has been showing up during Ziggler’s segments showed secret footage of Sonya Deville taking Mandy’s phone and sending the text herself. And they also included footage of Deville and Ziggler conspiring together to make this happen, all a ploy to make sure Dolph and Mandy got together.
Mandy was pretty upset by this, refusing to speak to Sonya. Now, Otis finally gets his chance to get some retribution on Dolph. I can only imagine one resolution to all this. Otis gets the victory, and afterwards, celebrates together with Mandy. It would’ve been a really good moment in front of a crowd, but it could still be pretty sweet anyway.
