The Kabuki Warriors vs. Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross | WrestleMania 36 Preview | WWE

In spite of everything going on in the world, we’re still here. We’ve made it through another week. And it’s gonna be quite a weekend as WWE is going through with this. For better or worse, WrestleMania 36 is now upon us, starting tonight. In an unprecedented circumstance to say the least, we will see WrestleMania play out over the span of two nights with zero fans in attendance. Everything is in disarray right now and WWE is no different, no matter how much they might want to pretend that the outside world can’t affect them. One such match that’s reportedly being affected is, in fact, the Women’s Tag Team Title match pitting the Kabuki Warriors against Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross.

I’ll say this much: I never could’ve imagined that the first WrestleMania I covered as a columnist would be a single thing like this. But even so. My name is Jordan Huie and I’m glad to have you here with us at the Overtimer. You can rest assured, we’ll be giving you the same coverage as always for WrestleMania. This year’s iteration, if nothing else, will be totally unlike any edition that’s come before or any edition that will ever come in the future. So with all that said… let’s get to the previews.

(Note: At the time of writing, WWE have not announced which matches will be airing on which day.)

WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships: The Kabuki Warriors © vs. Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross

It’s sorta weird to think we’ve already had these titles for over a year now. Aside from surprisingly headlining the Tables, Ladders and Chairs 2019 event, and the drama and controversy that surrounded Sasha Banks last summer, not a ton has really happened with the gold since it’s inception. This in spite of the fact that we’ve had four champion teams already. Even with the Kabuki Warriors being considered a successful act, they’ve been completely ignoring their own titles and going after singles gold since the start of the year.

This is all just to say that, they’re tag titles in WWE. It’s almost comforting to know that they treat tag divisions the exact same way regardless of gender. But, the Kabuki Warriors are a lot of fun together and the oddball pairing of Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross seems to have endeared itself to a lot of people as well. So this is a pretty solid Mania title match.

But it’s one that’s been affected quite a bit by circumstance. It was purported that it was planned to be a triple threat tag with the Pin-Up Strong pair of Natalya and Beth Phoenix being involved. That didn’t end up being possible. And word is, Asuka is among the several superstars who didn’t end up making WrestleMania. If that’s true, I don’t exactly know what they’ll do with this match.

If they’re wrong, then Kabuki Warriors over. With fans in attendance the title switch pop would be a bit tempting. But as it is, I just don’t see the value in it. Asuka and Kairi would have a much easier time working empty arena matches going forward than Alexa and Nikki. And if Asuka isn’t there, then the match probably wouldn’t happen at all since I can’t see them putting Kairi in a handicap situation.

I’m a hardcore wrestling fan, by which I mean I’m a hardcore fan of wrestling... but I also have nothing against hardcore wrestling! I’ve been watching since 2006, back when I was 12 years old. In that time I’ve fervently followed WWE, TNA, ROH, Lucha Underground and others. Today I’m most passionate about NXT, New Japan and especially AEW! You could call me a modern wrestling savant but I know my old school stuff as well... I’ll be your huckleberry all night long.
