With NXT Cruiserweight Champion Jordan Devlin locked down in the UK due to the travel ban, NXT General Manager William Regal has a solution. There will be an 8 man tournament to name an interim, or temporary champion. They will defend their title once they win it, and once Devlin can travel again, we will get an undisputed champion. This tournament will be done in a round robin format, with two blocks of four competitors facing everyone in their block. Fans of New Japan Pro Wrestling will find this very familiar, as it is how the G1 Climax and Best Of Super Juniors is handled, just on a smaller scale. This format benefits one man above all, that being KUSHIDA. Will he become Interium Cruiserweight Champion?
Two Time Winner Of Best Of The Super Juniors
KUSHIDA is the only man in this tournament with experience in this format, having been in nine editions of Best Of The Super Juniors, with his first time back in 2010. He was the winner in 2015 & 2017, and a finalist in 2014. He knows how to survive a grueling tournament, and with the small field, this could be a walk in the park for KUSHIDA.
The A Block Is Easy Pickings For KUSHIDA
He shares a block with some relative newcomers in Jake Atlas and 205 Live General Manager Drake Maverick, with his biggest challenge coming in Tony Nese. Nese is someone who has proven they are able to win in a tournament setting, having won a tournament to name a number one contender, which lead him to win his first Cruiserweight Championship at Wrestlemania in the past. However, While Nese could ruin his perfect run, KUSHIDA should have little trouble with the rookie Jake Atlas, and while Maverick is experienced, he isn’t on the level of KUSHIDA.
A Perfect Match For Jordan Devlin
A few months back on the house show circuit for NXT, fans were treated to a series of matches between KUSHIDA and Jordan Devlin, which got great reviews. This would make a unification match between the two a huge affair, with them being two of the best in the division, if not the company. They would bring the best out of each other, and that kind of feud is what this division needs. KUSHIDA feels like the most obvious choice for a winner, but will WWE go with the obvious?
Do you think KUSHIDA will breeze through this tournament and become the Interim Cruiserweight Champion? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
