You aren’t just handed a nickname like The Premiere Athlete, that is something you need to earn. This is exactly the case for former NXT Cruiserweight Champion Tony Nese. A perfect combination of speed, power and technique, Nese is one of the top stars of the Crusierweight division, and a man who has been part of 205 Live since the very start. Making his debut for WWE as part of the Cruiserweight Classic, he has faced just about everyone that has entered this division, and beaten them. Will he be able to become a two time champion, starting with winning the Interim Cruiserweight Championship.
Tony Nese Is On A Winning Streak On 205 Live
After losing in the 10 man elimination tag team match between NXT & 205 Live, Tony Nese has been on another level. He is on a two match win streak, having knocked off Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch in some incredible matches. Despite having been on this brand for years and having won the top prize, he still feels he has something to prove, and this tournament will be where he looks to prove that he is the best of the best. He has three first time opponents in the A-Block, and he will look to take them all down with ease.
The Strongest Man In The A-Block
His matches in the first part of this tournament will be against KUSHIDA, Drake Maverick and Jake Atlas. He will be going into each match with a clear power advantage, being pound for pound one of the strongest men in all of WWE. While KUSHIDA will beat him in technique and Jake Atlas will beat him as a high-flyer, he will be able to pound both men into the mat with ease if given the chance. It will take some perfect matches to stop Nese, who feels like a heavyweight who has kept himself under 205lbs to stay in this division.
One Of Two Former Champions In The Tournament
Along with Akira Tozawa who is on the other side of the bracket, Tony Nese is a former Crusierweight Champion. Having beaten Buddy Murphy at Wrestlemania 35, he was able to become the top name in the division, before losing to Drew Gulak later in 2019. He has proven that he is the best of the best once, so why couldn’t he do it once again? He has every reason to be the most confident man in the tournament, and that could be a blessing and curse.
Will Tony Nese and his overconfidence cause him to flop in this tournament, or will he be as dominant as ever on his way to another Cruiserweight Championship?
