Back in 2014, when Charlotte Flair was in her first reign as NXT Women’s Champion, she faced a young Mia Yim. Yim at that point was still a low level enhancement talent, and didn’t even last a minute again Charlotte Flair, who was still a rookie at this point herself. Nearly 6 years have passed since that match, and Mia Yim will now have a chance to redeem that loss and show just how much she has grown, as she will be the first person Charlotte Flair will face from NXT now that she has entered her second reign as NXT Women’s Champion. Will Mia Yim be able to pull off a major upset, or will she bow to the Queen?
Mia Yim Is Not Ready Yet
Charlotte Flair would take an early advantage after pushing Yim into the corner after their intial lockup, before applying a headlock in the middle of the ring as she trash talked. A big knee to the gut followed by a series of signature Flair Chop would drop Mia. Despite Yim countering an irish whip into the corner, Flair would float over onto the apron and hit a shoulder to the gut, then leap through the middle rope into a roll up for a near fall.
She would attempt a Big Boot, but Yim would side step and land some jabs on The Queen before hitting a combonation of strikes ending with a kick to the face. This would send Charlotte into the corner, where Yim hit a cannonball before heading to the apron. Once Charlotte got back to a vertical base, Yim would hit a DDT after springing through the middle rope for a near fall.
Charlotte Flair Proves She Is A Cut Above
Charlotte would counter a German Suplex with an elbow to the face, but after throwing Yim into the ropes to get some space, she would be taunted as Yim relaxed between the middle and top rope, ala Andrade. This would frustrate Charlotte, who rushed in and was sent to the outside, but as Yim attempted a Suicide Dive, she met a hard forearm instead. That would put the control back in the corner of The Queen, who would brutalize Yim for several minutes with strikes, submissions and more. The lethal knife edge chops would echo through the arena, as well as the trash talk with Charlotte loudly proclaiming you spell her last name as “FAMOUS” as she choked Yim in the corner with her boot.
Yim would show life eventually, fighting her way back up out of the corner with some kicks before trapping Charlotte in the ropes with the Trantula, made famous by TAJIRI. The four seconds of intense stretching would do little to weaken Flair, who fought out of an backdrop attempt with ease. She would simply stomp Yim, who would be shut down whenever offense would be attempted. Even Yims best shots of Soeul Food and the Code Blue wouldn’t take Flair down. Her closest chance at victory came after she countered the Figure Four into a Small Package, but that still only got a two count. She would attempt Protect Ya Neck, but end up in the Figure Four, and once Charlotte completed the bridge into the Figure Eight, it was over for Yim.
Will Io Shirai Have A Better Chance At Victory?
This match showed Charlotte Flair as the Brock Lesnar of the NXT Women’s Division, and it might be a very long time before someone can take the belt off her. She took one of the toughest in NXT and made her look like a rookie all over again. Io Shirai would confront Charotte after the match, yelling at her in Japanese, before declaring she will face Charlotte for the title. Do you think Io will fare better against Flair?
