This past week on Raw (3/30), we got to see something many of us thought we wouldn’t see in the WWE again, and something others have never seen — the return of the American Badass. While it’s not a full on shift in characters, the Undertaker’s new persona feel more like a mix of his Deadman and his American Badass. On top of that, he teased some friends to help with the OC, leading fans to wonder who is the Undertaker’s Unholy Trinity?
There are a few possibilities, but the recent coronavirus countermeasures and real life responsibilities may keep a couple of these from happening, but never say never in the professional wrestling world.
Mankind
This seems like the perfect choice, and it may happen as Mick Foley has remained active with the WWE by making appearances and was even attacked by the Fiend at the Raw Reunion. But that’s a far cry from actually being in position to take bumps or other physical mishaps.
Foley retired from in-ring competition in 2013 after being told by a neurologist to never wrestle again. He even kidded about having his feud with Dean Ambrose focus around his “healthier” left knee.
The fact is, they could approach this like they did at Raw Reunion when DX helped Rollins fight off the OC and just have him throw some punches and toss someone around. But it’s not Foley’s style to take it easy like that, so he may just stay in retirement.
Kane

The Undertaker’s storyline brother is an obvious choice, and he’s appeared a couple of times on WWE programming in the last few months. The thing with this is as Mayor of Knox County, Tennessee, his duties could preclude him from taking part in this year’s WrestleMania.
This doesn’t mean it won’t happen, it just points to it being a tighter window for Kane to appear.
Still, we think this is highly as a caveat to fans to see the Brothers of Destruction together again, even if it’s only for one match.
In this case, it may be tough to keep Jacobs from appearing as Kane since it’s a character that hurtled him to stardom and remains close to his heart, as does the WWE. Of course, the WWE could always put someone else in Kane’s costume. They did it before, just as Glenn Jacobs was the fake Undertaker years ago.
Bigshow
This may seem out there, but remember the tag team the Unholy Alliance?
Because of that, this makes perfect sense. Besides, how awesome would it be to see three skyscrapers overshadow AJ Styles and the OC? It’d give Styles every chance to shine and put on a great match before being dispatched (most likely outcome).
The problem with this is the Bigshow makes rare appearances, and if he joins Kane and the Undertaker to squash the OC, then it’s continuing the current trend of stifling younger talent for the sake of retired Legends.
While Styles may be nearing the end of his career, Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows are still relatively young, and despite going from the best tag team in the world to jobbers for some unknown reason, they have a bright future.
This leads us to the final name we feel would fit perfect with the Undertaker, and that’s…
Aleister Black
This is probably the one name that’s been tossed around the most, along with Kane, at joining the Undertaker, and it makes the most sense.
Not only is Aleister Black a dark character looking for a fight, but his entrance using the rising platform had been originally designed for the Undertaker (https://www.fightful.com/wrestling/aleister-black-reveals-raising-platform-entrance-was-meant-undertaker ).
In fact, Black’s whole theme and entrance fits perfectly with Taker’s and Kane’s, as he explained in the above linked article,
“There’s this band called Watain, a black metal band, there’s a live performance and I always loved the DVD. The aesthetic of that was mesmerizing,” Black explained. “It had a lot of fire and red. When we started putting (my entrance) together, I showed them the DVD and said ‘this is the kind of aesthetic I want to go for.’ They tried to re-create that in a WWE setting. They created this stage, as soon as the lights go down and the candles come up, the audience knows what time it is. They did such a good job in priming the audience to know what’s happening. The landscape changes. The light changes, the candles come up, it’s dark, there’s fog and the entrance is completely different. I was talking to Triple H about it and he showed me this construction [lifting platform] and he goes, ‘It was actually meant for The Undertaker. We don’t have any use for it right now, what do you think?’ I said, ‘I’ll take it.’”

“I could formulate something around the entrance where Aleister Black would just appear from nowhere. People think it’s a coffin but it’s not, I’m just propelled out of a void. I materialize. Same with the room. It’s a non-existent place and I materialize from that. It has hints of supernatural.”
For us, it appears Taker’s most likely grouping will be a mix of young and old, with Kane on one side and Aleister Black on the other. While it’s easy to see the Big Show in Kane’s place given current circumstances, it’d be a shame not to see Kane and the Undertaker side by side again.
Which combination do you think we’ll see at WrestleMania? Let us know in the comments, we’d love to hear from you.
