Another edition of WWE Monday Night Raw commences. We of course begin with a video package detailing the events of last night with the men’s and women’s Money In The Bank Ladder matches, which went down simultaneously. They dedicate a decent bit to this actually, it’s about a three minute video package. I was wondering if maybe Seth Rollins would be taking a leave of absence in going with the rumors abounding about Becky Lynch. Speaking of which, out she comes to open the show proper and strangely she’s holding the Women’s Money In The Bank briefcase. She takes up the mic and is immediately in tears. Says she’s at a mix of joy and sadness. She’s at a place of change and she asked the decision makers to raise the stakes for the Money In The Bank match and they did. But first she wants to go into how she came up. Says she didn’t used to know if people would care about some loudmouth Irish woman who loved puns and toast but she came to find that they really did care. It was the fans who propped her up and it’s the fans who she had to hold onto when there was no one else. It’s why the fans deserve to hear it first that she’ll have to go away for a while… there, Asuka’s music hits and she rushes her way to the ring, already yelling.
Asuka seems furious that Becky has her case. Becky says yes, that is hers. Says Asuka has beaten her when nobody else could and she’s been the best wrestler in the world for a long time and that’s why she’s so glad this happened to her. Says last night wasn’t what she thought it was, it wasn’t for a chance at the title, it was for so much more. Says she knows she hasn’t been able to unlock the briefcase but she knows the combination… she opens the case and inside it is the RAW Women’s Champion. Tells her that the match was actually for the RAW Women’s title and now, she’s the champion. Asuka is in disbelief but that quickly gives way to an overjoyed reaction as she rushes down the ramp and celebrates atop the broadcast table. Becky looks to be actively trying not to laugh but it’s impossible.
Asuka makes her way back into the ring with the title and Becky says she might even be a little bit happier. Says Asuka can go and be a warrior ’cause she’s gonna go and be a mother. Asuka is shocked and gives her a big hug and starts chanting “Becky”. Lynch’s music hits and she makes her way up to the stage, holding back tears.
That was significantly more cute than I thought it’d be and kind of a clever idea with the title in the briefcase, given that they probably hadn’t decided it was a thing back when they filmed the MITB match.
