At Wrestlemania 36, Drew McIntyre would defeat Brock Lesnar and become the first Scottish man to win the WWE Championship. This was a huge moment that cemented McIntrye as a long-term star for WWE, and he is looking to influence future shows within WWE. During a virtual round table with fellow Scottish champions in WWE, Nikki Cross, Kay Lee Ray & Gallus members Wolfgang & Mark Coffey, he mentioned that he is pushing hard for another WWE PPV in the United Kingdom.
The Last Major PPV In The United Kingdom Was Summerslam ’92
While NXT UK has provided fans with some incredible Takeover events, and Progress ran a major show out of Wembley bringing in 4,750 fans, the last major PPV in the UK happened in 1992 when they hosted Summerslam. 78.927 fans packed Wembley Stadium for one of the best remembered Summerslam events in history, in a card that was capped off Bret Hart defending the WWE Intercontinental Championship against The British Bulldog in a classic match. Randy Savage also defended the WWE Championship against Ultimate Warrior on the card in another highlight match.
Drew McIntyre Wants To Change This
During the interview, the Scottish champions would be asked about a major PPV in the UK. McIntyre had the following to say. ““It’s not just something I’m visualizing, I’m actively working and pushing and talking about whenever I do UK media. I’m always trying to think outside the box, Tyson Fury seems to want to get involved in something. If it takes getting a Battle Of Britain going to get a UK PPV i don’t care, all that matters is when things get back to normal, i want to get back home. All 5 of us on an open-top bus from the top of Scotland, take it right down through the UK to the bottom of England, on a big tour to get the country rallied up. Tell the world this is where there should be a big PPV. Look at SummerSlam ‘92, how mental the fans were. We know how passionate UK fans are, we know we would sell out Wembley Stadium, Hamden, it’s going to be a big deal.”
