There are few stars in wrestling that have had more controversy in recent years than Enzo Amore. Once part of a popular tag team with Big Cass, Enzo proved to be an absolute master on the microphone, but was lacking in the ring. He played his role great in tag team matches, being a punching bag who would absorb punishment before tagging in Big Cass who would clear house, but on his own in the ring he even managed to have bad matches with AJ Styles & Cesaro. This made his solo move to the budding Cruiserweight Division all the more surprising, but could it have extended the life of 205 Live?
Enzo Amore Is A Two Time Cruiserweight Champion, And You Can’t Teach That
He was instantly a star in the division, winning the Cruiserweight Championship off Neville at No Mercy 2017, a move that angered many fans. This would lead to a change in 205 Live, and one that added a much needed splash of character to the program. He would align himself with Drew Gulak, Noam Dar, Ariya Daivari and Tony Nese to form the ‘Zo Train. This is one of the best eras of the show, as the fantastic in-ring content was backed up by storytelling, where he would run down the entire roster on the microphone and use the numbers advantage to beat them down in the ring. We sadly wouldn’t see a conclusion to this story due to his messy exit from WWE. This however would also help 205 Live, in it’s own way.
205 Live Became The Best Wrestling Show In WWE During The Cruiserweight Championship Tournament
When Amore was released from WWE as the active Cruiserweight Champion, the belt would be made vacant and a tournament would be held to crown a new champion at Wrestlemania. Cedric Alexander, Gran Metalik, Tyler Bate, TJP, Kalisto, Lince Dorado, Roderick Strong, Hideo Itami, Akira Tozawa, Mark Andrews, Drew Gulak, Tony Nese, Buddy Murphy, Ariya Daivari & Mustafa Ali would all wage war to win the championship, in a series of matches that rival even the Cruiserweight Classic. The finals would see Cedric Alexander & Mustafa Ali face off at Wrestlemania 34, and usher in a new era for the brand. It kept the storytelling, and the wrestling only got better.
Enzo Amore brought viewers into watching 205 Live, showed Cruiserweights could have personality, and then his exit boosted the quality of wrestling. Not bad for someone blasted as a terrible wrestler. Do you think Enzo Amore helped the WWE Cruiserweight Division? Should WWE have never broken up Enzo & Cass?
