When it comes to ladder matches in WWE, Christian is one of the men who innovated the modern style that would influence Money In The Bank. He was even involved in the first match at Wrestlemania 21, but it was the triangle ladder match against The Hardyz & The Dudleys alongside Edge which started style. The stakes in these matches have only gotten higher since Wrestlemania 2000, but the game was changed at Money In The Bank. While the match still featured ladders, but the bulk of the match was a cinematic brawl up WWE Headquarters. While on the After The Bell podcast with Corey Graves this past week, Christian would give his thoughts on this match.
Christian Feels It Was Very Unique
“Obviously, it wasn’t the traditional ladder match in the sense of what I came up doing and those sorts of things but you know we’re in a unique situation. Having WrestleMania at the Performance Center, it’s unheard of but for me, it was necessary to do that show to give the world some entertainment to give an escape. That being said, it also gives an opportunity to do more unique things like we saw with the Fun House and the Boneyard Match and now with this Money in the Bank match. I thought it was innovative, I thought it was well done, I thought it was different and different is hard to do these days and more than anything, I think that every participant in it came off looking better than they did going in, and to me that’s important.”
In particular, Christian oddly felt the match benefited Dana Brooke the most. Her notable spots included thinking she won the match after taking a replica briefcase off the roof in a boardroom, and not making it to the roof after slipping on the wet floor. “I think that to me, it’s taking advantage of the moments that you get and those moments for Dana Brooke might not have happened in a regular setting in a ladder match situation.”
We might never see another Money In The Bank ladder match like the 2020 edition ever again, and that will only help to build it’s legend.
