Major League Wrestling still had some matches and promos in the can thanks to the Super Show/challenge series with AAA. Check out the card for MLW Fusion #106.
MLW Fusion #106 Card
Douglas James vs. Averno
Team Filthy vs. Puma King & Xtreme Tiger
MLW Fusion opened with a recap of Hammerstone costing Ol’ Mancer and Savio Vega their street fight against Pagano and Mortiz. We then get an interview with Mance Warner saying that the National Openweight champion and his belt are now in his sights! The Meat Castle had better watch out! Next, Douglas James hypes his match against Averno—which is next!
Douglas James vs. Averno
This was a pretty base match. It wasn’t good but it wasn’t bad either. Averno will deliver a solid match as a singles but can crank it up. In tag action, he really cranks it up. Douglas James’ matches tend to depend on how well he clicks with an opponent or if their style works with his. This was an instance where the styles didn’t gel well but they got out a serviceable enough match. Averno picks up the win via knockout bringing the series to 1-2 with Major League Wrestling being behind.

Promo Time! Brought to You By Major League Wrestling
While James is helped out, we get an update on things between Injustice and Brian Pillman Jr. Also, Davey Boy Smith Jr wishes Alicia a happy birthday before going into Team Filthy. He also announces that Pillman Jr will be back in action as the Hart Foundation takes on Texano Jr and Rey Escorpion Jr.
Speaking of Injustice, Konnan granted them their match against Jinetes del Aire for the AAA World Trios title. The three of them come out to speak with Alicia where they trash Pillman and hype their match. Jordan Oliver is comfortable on the mic and the best trash talker in Injustice.
After that, Major League Wrestling runs a promo video for AAA’s Vikingo. Dynasty is caught at the US-Mexico border. For some reason, they’re hiding behind a sign and they’re up to something. They then proceed to trash being in Mexico. During this promo, Richard Holliday confirms that he’ll be defending Savio Vega’s Caribbean championship.
Dan Lambert and King Mo are officially members of Team Filthy. Mo’s defeat of Low Ki and attack on Killer Kross were shown as Lambert and Mo provided their comments on both. Pagano is interested in the MLW World Championship and could be in Major League Wrestling once business resumes.
Ehhh…Here, Have Some More Promos
Alexander Hammerstone is backstage with Alicia who expresses how disappointed she is in his attack on Mance. The Meat Castle tells Alicia to forget about all of that and tries to hit on her when Mance Warner attacks him! Following an introduction of some of the talent in this Super Series, Team Filthy trash the Von Erichs.
Also, Hammerstone and Ol’ Mancer are still brawling backstage.
Team Filthy vs. Puma King & Xtreme Tiger
The cap on the show pitted Team Filthy’s Tom Lawlor and Dominic Garrini against Puma King and Xtreme Tiger. Puma King comes from the large Casas lucha libre dynasty and is a good wrestler in his own right. Xtreme Tiger—or Tigre Uno or Extreme Tiger—is a high flyer trained by Rey Misterio Sr who is also at home in extreme matches. Of the two, Puma King is still employed by AAA while Xtreme Tiger was a full-timer with them between 2006 and 2012 before leaving for TNA. Currently, he’s on the indies.
This bout was a clash of styles that wasn’t bad. Yes, this was a very “wasn’t bad” episode of MLW Fusion. The luchadores did the dives and exciting stuff but also did mat work with Lawlor and Garrini. There was also a fun submission spot where everyone locked a hold in until Tiger got Lawlor in an arm hold and broke up everything. It’s a safe, well-known lucha tag spot.
Other than that, there wasn’t anything eye-poppingly “Wow!” about this matchup.
Team Filthy def. Puma King & Xtreme Tiger via Rear Naked Choke (SUB)
This episode ends with a celebration for backstage interviewer Alicia. Savio Vega is the MC for the occasion and wouldn’t you look—there’s a cake. Hammerstone shows up to sour things. Apparently, he got away from Mance Warner. As you expect, whenever a cake is in a wrestling surrounding, someone’s face is going into it. Sure enough, Ol’ Mancer shows up and smashes Hammerstone’s face into it!
Can wrestling be predictable? Very. Will I mark out every time a cake gets smashed into a heel’s face? You betcha.
Match of the Show: Team Filthy vs. Puma King & Xtreme Tiger
This wasn’t the best show to catch for MLW Fusion. These shows need at least three bouts with the number of promos and build that the company does but given the times…eh, what are you gonna do?
The main event wasn’t bad and was probably better when you catch the show in full and the match has good placement on the card. It was the better of two matches offered.
