Fans will not be seeing any matches involving former tag team champions The Usos for the foreseeable future. This is because one half of the team, Jimmy Uso has suffered a knee injury which will keep him out of the ring for the next six to nine months. The extent of the injury is unclear, but he will be requiring surgery.
When Did Jimmy Uso Get Injured?
At Wrestlemania 36, Jimmy Uso was involved in a triple threat ladder match with Kofi Kingston & John Morrison, which was his last recorded match. Ladder matches come with an insane level of risk, and Uso had his fair share of dangerous spots in one of the best matches from Wrestlemania weekend. This is a likely culprit for the injury, which is the first major injury in the career of Jimmy Uso.
What Will Become Of Jey Uso?
The hard part of one half of a tag team like The Usos getting injured is that it sidelines both men. It is unlikely that Jey Uso will be getting much of a singles push, over the next few months. We could see him partner up with his cousin Roman Reigns or another tag team specialist like Jeff Hardy, but it is much more likely we won’t be seeing much of either half of The Usos until both are healthy once again.
This is why WWE is likely starting to shift towards trios like The New Day & The Forgotten Sons, as a single injury won’t derail any plans with those teams. The New Day are awaiting the return of Xavier Woods as Big E
Giving Time For New Teams To Shine
While The Usos have a very proven track record, being six time tag team champions, their act has gotten stale over time. You can only see so many matches of any team before you get sick of them, and that is the case for many regarding The Usos. This time away will allow their act to get fresh again, and gives the tag team division a chance to shine. Teams like Lucha House Party, Heavy Machinery and Forgotten Sons will have more of a chance to make an impact on Smackdown Live during these next few months.
We here at The Overtimer wish Jimmy Uso a speedy recovery. What do you think will happen with Jey Uso for the duration of 2020? Which team will replace The Usos at their high level going forward? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
