Last week on NXT, we would see Matt Riddle & Timothy Thatcher bond during the debut episode of the Newly Bros Show. This would be brought to a halt by two members of the dominant NXT UK faction, Imperium. Marcel Bartel & Fabian Aichner would first beat down Riddle, sending him into the steel steps of the ring before unceremoniously dumping him over the barricade onto the concrete. Thatcher would attempt to make the save, but the numbers advantage would be too much, and he would be dropped in the ring with a deadly European Bomb. Bartel & Aichner would stand tall holding the NXT Tag Team Championships, making their intentions clear; but would offer more context this week.
Imperium Want The NXT Tag Team Titles
Bartel would state that time and time again, Imperium has proven they are the most dominant force in all of NXT. They beat Undisputed Era at Worlds Collide, WALTER has held an iron grip on the NXT UK Championship, and many have fallen to them. Their dominance is why they couldn’t bare to stand by and watch Matt Riddle & Timothy Thatcher besmirch the NXT Tag Team Titles. The ring is a sacred place in the eyes of Imperium, not a place for jokers.
Aichner would state that this is why they interrupted that foolish game-show last week, and shut down that embarrassment to their great sport. They are officially declaring their challenge for the NXT Tag Team Titles.
Could Matt Riddle & Timothy Thatcher’s Reign Be Ending Soon?
With Matt Riddle & Timothy Thatcher still figuring out who they are as a tag team, a well oiled machine like Aichner & Bartel could be very dangerous to their standing as champions. They were able to fight off Strong & Fish of The Undisputed Era, but that could have only been due to the fact that it wasn’t the strongest pairing. Kyle O’Reilly is the tag team heart of Undisputed Era, and he wasn’t involved.
We can expect the fighting champions of Riddle & Thatcher to accept this challenge in the coming weeks. Could Imperium be able to end the reign of Riddle & Thatcher, or will the reign survive long enough for Pete Dunne to reclaim his part of the gold?
