WWE NXT TakeOver: In Your House continues. We move onto the Backlot Brawl for the NXT Championship, where Adam Cole defends the gold against Velveteen Dream!

Backlot Brawl for the NXT Championship: Adam Cole (c) vs. Velveteen Dream

Cole comes in with a crazy monster Undisputed Era Monster Truck. This looks to be styled after Styles/Undertaker. Cole sits atop the truck and calls himself the king of the world, he runs the brand, nobody will beat him for this championship! Meanwhile Dream arrives in a yellow Lamborghini! Dream comes out with a baseball bat. There’s a ring here by the way and the match must end inside the ring. The ring is illuminated by a circle of cars. I think Ken Shamrock and Dan Severn had a match in a setup like this once…

Dream in the ring first, Cole demands he put down the bat. Cole steps down to the ring as Dream pulls off his entrance attire, playing with his scarf and he tosses it right across Cole’s face! Cole swings his title at Dream but he ducks it, roll up for 2! Backslide for 2 as well! Dream with an Oklahoma Roll for a nearfall as well, Cole bails! Lures him out of the ring, then back inside – Pump Kick takes him down! Mounts him for punches. Says he doesn’t deserve a shot and he’s leaving. He takes the title and bails! He goes into a car but Dream pursues with a bat! He takes the bat to the windshield, to the door, knocks off a mirror! Suddenly it appears Cole is trapped, I guess he can’t start the thing. Cole escapes out the door when Dream circles around, they fight until an SUV pulls up asking if anyone called for an Ubur.

Dream slams Cole inside the SUV momentarily and as they fight out, it speeds off. Dream takes him over to the building, tosses a trash can at him and he narrowly avoids it. Cole begs him off, but then trips him to the concrete. Cole is still looking to make his leave. Dream is following him with a metal trash can and also holding the lid. But he can’t find Cole and he tosses both of them away. He pounds on a door demanding to see him. He opens it up and gets doused with a fire extinguisher! This lets Cole take the advantage, shots to the face. They exchange shots but Cole with a kick to the gut drops him. Pump Kick to the face staggers him over to a truck. Cole with an elbow puts him to a seated position. Cole asks him why doesn’t he just quit? Tells him he won’t because he’s stupid.

Pounds him with forearms. Dream leaps up and chokes him with a strand of his torn up half-shirt! Grabs him by the hair and posts him! Dream with a flying double axe handle off the apron, throws him into the ring and tries to cover but Cole slides under the bottom rope. Dream wants a top rope double axe handle this time but Cole counters that with a superkick! Cole looking for Panama Sunrise, leaps off the apron but Dream with a superkick out of the air as well! “Velveteen” chant from the onlookers. Dream sends Cole onto the hood of a car, slams him to leave him laying there! Warns him he’ll never forget the Velveteen Dream. Dream grabs a ladder and pulls it over towards Cole. He pounds him with forearms to keep him laid out. Dream sets up the ladder! He climbs it and tells him what a bad dream this is… but Dream is blinded by the bright headlights of arriving cars driven by the other UE members! It lets Cole rush up the ladder – but Dream shoves him off and he falls right onto the windshield!! His arm is sliced open by the glass!

But Roderick Strong and Bobby Fish swarm on Velveteen and batter him against the concrete! They check on Cole. He tells them they know what to do. They climb up the monster truck and apparently he put a thousand steel chairs in the bed of it as they toss chair after chair into the ring. They look under the ring for more – but Dexter Lumis is under there with a chair of his own! He spooks them and hits each with a chair, he throws both Strong and Fish into the trunk of a car! He gets inside it and peels out, driving them away! Cole meanwhile still trying to peel himself off the car. He crawls to the ring. And he goes up top! Looking for the Panama Sunrise on that stack of chairs but Dream catches him out of the air to reverse into the Dream Valley Driver for a nearfall!!

Dream going up top now as Cole sets up a chair. Cole sits himself on the damned chair but Dream comes off the top, Purple Rainmaker puts him right through it! Covers for a nearfall! I have no idea why he just set himself up for that spot, kinda weird. Dream tells him this is the sound of his dream coming to an end… but Cole with a lowblow! Goes up again, PANAMA SUNRISE ONTO THE STACK OF CHAIRS! And that is that, Cole retains!

    Winner: Adam Cole

Yeah that was basically what AJ vs. Undertaker would’ve been if they could both still work. Had some weird decisions but some unique spots for sure and a really cool finish.

I’m a hardcore wrestling fan, by which I mean I’m a hardcore fan of wrestling... but I also have nothing against hardcore wrestling! I’ve been watching since 2006, back when I was 12 years old. In that time I’ve fervently followed WWE, TNA, ROH, Lucha Underground and others. Today I’m most passionate about NXT, New Japan and especially AEW! You could call me a modern wrestling savant but I know my old school stuff as well... I’ll be your huckleberry all night long.
