In AEW, there are few stars that are rising fast than Sammy Guevara. The young ward of Chris Jericho, he’s an AEW Champion in the making, but he would get caught up in the mess that is the #SpeakingOut trend on Twitter.
What Did Sammy Guevara Do?
In an interview from 2016, Sammy Guevara would speak about his WWE tryout. He wouldn’t be chosen for a spot on the roster, but he’d get a chance at the WWE Performance Center to show his stuff. During this tryout, he would see Sasha Banks. The interview would feature what was meant to be a joke, but it was a vile one to say the least. He would suggest that in response to seeing how beautiful Sasha Banks was, he’d ‘go rape’ her.
There really isn’t any defending the supposed joke, and Guevara and Banks would work things out behind the scenes.
Guevara Made Both A Private And Public Apology
In a post made to her Twitter page, Banks would explain that she had spoken with Sammy earlier. “He apologized and we had an open discussion. Words like the comments he made, jokingly or not, have absolutely no place in our society.”
Guevara would also be sure to take to his Twitter page, and say the following. “I’ve made stupid, inappropriate and extremely offensive comments in my past. In my idiotic mind, I thought I was being funny in using words and terms that represent nothing but horror and pain. I am truly sorry for my hurtful words and actions, and I will never forgive myself. “
This might be the most open-close case in all of the #SpeakingOut movement. The moment was brought to attention, he would apologize both publically and privately, and Banks addressed it her own self. Guevara has likely grown over the past four years, and has grown more on this day.
