When picking a fight, it’s generally wise to mark sure you can win, or at least have hope of surviving, and this was the type of questions many of us were asking when Ethan Page ran his mouth and got Ken Shamrock’s attention.
Last week, Ethan Page of Impact Wrestling’s Tag Team Champions, The North) has been upset at those backstage not watching what he and his partner, Josh Alexander, accomplished in their title defense against the Deaners (Cody and Jake Deaner). It was a good match and The North have been tag team champions for a year, but no one cared. The group was too busy watching videos of Ken Shamrock’s exploits to pay attention.
Page lost it and destroyed an IPad before storming off.
Fast forward to this week, and he still hadn’t cooled off. This time as he vented to Alexander backstage about how much he hates Ken Shamrock, Shamrock came up behind him and issued a challenge as only Shamrock can.

Backing it up
Page immediately backed down, looking like he would have to change his wrestling attire, but Alexander stepped up and accepted Shamrock’s challenge since he was already dressed. So was Page, but it was easy to overlook that little whoopsie. Of course, it’s not like Shamrock would’ve noticed as he was a tiny bit fired up.
Later, when Shamrock headed to the ring The North attacked him from behind and despite a great effort, Shamrock was eventually subdued until he passed out, thanks in part to an ankle lock administered by Alexander.
While this set up a future feud between them, it was disappointing. We were so jacked to see what Alexander could so in singles action that this felt cheap and like we were robbed of something that could’ve been fun.
This also marks the current trend where Shamrock needs to be disrespected to enter into a feud. While it plays well into the fact he’s in his 50s and still looks amazing, it’s starting to get a little old. Thankfully, his intensity of easy to catch and watching him is still as fun as it was twenty years ago in the WWE.
It’s great to see so many of the older stars still able to perform at a high level. It’s something that not only helps keep us entertained, but it also keeps the younger wrestlers joining a grounding point and is one of the reasons that Impact is better for wrestling traditionalists then the WWE or AEW. Of course, as fans we love all wrestling, and it’s great to have so many different kinds to choose from.
