The best feud we might never see come to fruition is Brock Lesnar vs. Matt Riddle. Lesnar simply does not want to work with Riddle, but Riddle refuses to give up. The closest they came to meeting was in the 2020 Royal Rumble, but Lesnar would be eliminated by McIntyre before the King Of Bros could make his way into the match. We now know how Riddle felt after this didn’t work out, he was heartbroken.
Matt Riddle Was Let Down On That Night
After weeks of being uncertain if he would have even make it into the Royal Rumble, the moment he found out he wanted one thing: he wanted to fight Brock Lesnar. They both have MMA backgrounds, they’re both popular in WWE. It just makes sense. It didn’t work out, and in an interview with Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT, Riddle would speak on how he felt about the match.
“So, I wasn’t mad, I wasn’t sad, I was more just heartbroken. But it’s like when a girl turns you down on a date; hey, it doesn’t mean give up completely. It’s like OK, let’s go back to the drawing board, maybe I came on a little too strong this time. Maybe I’ll try something different to convince him, ya know? So that’s how that scenario played out. Then I got to the Rumble, got to play with Edge, kick Corbin, kicked now, reigning heavyweight champion, Drew McIntyre. The pop was pretty beautiful too, but the pop if I had of gotten in the ring slightly earlier when Brock was in– ahhhh! I’m pretty sure the crowd would have been like ‘oh my god! He’s going to get his chance!’ But hey, still a pretty good pop.”
It Could Have Improved The Early Match Further
The arena would have exploded to see Riddle & Lesnar clash, with it likely matching or even surpassing the reaction to Keith Lee & Brock Lesnar staring each other down. Even if Riddle came in during the early parts of the match when Lesnar was eliminating anything that moved? It would have been another fun moment, and could have been better than someone like Erick Rowan or John Morrison coming into the match and being removed right away. However, all reports indicate that Lesnar does not want to ever work with Riddle.
