Fans are still buzzing about the excellent Fight Pit match from NXT, where Matt Riddle & Timothy Thatcher went to war. This match felt tailor-made for those two, playing on the MMA background of Riddle, and the catch wrestling & bloodsport experience of Thatcher. However, it has potential to work outside of this feud, and it very well might be the go-to for ending heated feuds within NXT.
NXT’s Version Of Hell In A Cell
While it has devolved into a annual PPV where feuds are just thrown into it, Hell In A Cell was originally made to end the most heated feuds within WWE. An ultra violent match-up, it did have it’s stinkers but mostly produced iconic matches throughout it’s history. NXT could now have a chance to have a match like this of their own. Often times a simple cage match would be used to cap off a singles feud, or War Games if it was factions. Those are both done great, with NXT having some of the best cage-matches in recent memory for WWE. However, they lacked their big signature match, something that could have been used to finish off a feud like Gargano vs. Ciampa or Gargano vs. Cole in dramatic fashion. The Fight Pit could be that.
The Fight Pit Has One Potential Match In The Making
One of the longest running feuds in NXT is that between Dakota Kai & Tegan Nox. They’ve been at each others throats since War Games in 2019, when Kai would turn on Nox and try to reinjure her knee. They met in a No Holds Barred match, a cage match, and more but Raquel Gonzalez has prevented a definitive finish from happening. At one of the first shows back with fans, we could see this rivalary finally end in the Fight Pit. Both ladies are known for their striking abilities, making this a natural fit. It might not do that much to fend off Gonzalez, but Nox has some allies in Shotzi Blackheart & Mia Yim now, which could help her odds.
We have also seen Pete Dunne challenge Breezango to a Fight Pit match for one final match with Matt Riddle, and Swerve call out Timothy Thatcher for a round in the Fight Pit. They might have nailed it on the first try, but that won’t stop them from doing it again. Who do you want to see duke it out in the Fight Pit? Should it become a special NXT PPV?
