WWE have been playing things increasingly loose when it comes to the COVID-19 pandemic. This has caused names like Roman Reigns, Ali, and more to stay away from WWE. They never stopped running shows, and are choosing to run their shows live when possible. Since the start, they have claimed to be taking every possible precaution, but that has clearly not been the case. There was a positive case of the virus found with a developmental talent in the company, who last worked in a match on June 9th. It has been reported that no one in the company knew until the news broke on Twitter.
WWE Tapings Have Been Cancelled While Everyone Gets Tested
WWE has been doing a better job of staying prepared by taping their content lately, but the taping session that was set to happen today have been delayed until tomorrow. This is due to the entire roster being sent to get tested for COVID-19, because most members of the roster have never gotten tested. Other companies like AEW, NJPW, and Stardom have been sure to test all their talent, while WWE was doing simple wellness and fever checks. WWE intends to move ahead like normal after getting the results back, getting content taped tomorrow for RAW, Smackdown & NXT.
At this time, we have no idea who the developmental talent who tested positive is, who he would have interacted with, or how many people this could effect. We need to wait for the test results to come back, and hope WWE is actually going to report the results honestly.
This Could Be What Finally Shuts Them Down For A While
Having made it this far without a hitch, it’s wild to think of WWE actually choosing to suspend their shows for any period of time, but this could force them to stop. If a good chunk of their roster is infected, it won’t be easy for WWE to bounce back. They’ve been good at dodging scandals so far, but this could be too big. It was plain negligence to not have most of their roster tested at all, and now it’s coming back to bite them much harder than Roman Reigns pulling out of Wrestlemania.
